    Quoted from Hazoff:

What don't u get? Who would put a pin in their house with a theme they dislike? That would be the strange thing. On Location I'll play anything at least a few times but I'm not going to buy a game with a theme I'm not into, this thing where "I hate the theme but it play great so I bought it" is crap. Maiden was great, but if I didn't enjoy the music no chance I'm dropping 10k on a Pre. Theme is just as strong a factor in the appeal of a pin as game play. Theres a Rick and Morty pin being made right? its not a show I watch and the one time I did it just wasn't funny to me, no matter what they do with regards to layout and toys and gameplay its not happening, I'll play it but I'll never own it.

Sort of sums it up...Not just NIB, btw...Across the board...

I'm not so much about theme as I am about cashbox. For me, the cashbox never lies.

Great metric....so has theme driven the cashbox, or a game no one knows but is fun to play?

    Quoted from LTG:

For my location. I believe the fun factor gets the second paid play and more. More so than theme.

So I would think many titles carry both...great theme and great play (TAF as my bar here). I'm curious, from your standpoint ( a very knowledgeable one) and cashbox, what would be an example of (1) great theme, great gameplay, great ROI...(2) great theme, horrid gameplay, bad ROI.....(3) bad theme, great gameplay, great ROI.

I think this would help many (including me) from overlooking titles that might be enjoyable to own and play. How does a game like Congo, or SS fit your metric? Guessing category "2" or "3"?

    Quoted from LTG:

TAF is both recognizable and stood the test of time. The New Yorker, TV series, and movies helped it along. Medieval Madness always kills. The looks - medieval, castle, humor, draws in a large audience. Attack From Mars though similar, not the same attraction.
Appealing to a wider audience gets an easier shot at the first coin up. Fun gets the repeat business easier.

    Quoted from o-din:

We had a Congo on location with about another 150 games in the 90s at the same place. It never drew much of a crowd and I played it very little. First impressions mean a lot when it comes to my 50 cents I guess. in the few times I have played it recently those impressions did not change.
When playing on location, for me, with so many choices games needed some kind of a hook. Brash, in your face themes, always appealed to me.
But what it really came down to is how attainable is a replay. That goes way back to the beginning for me. And still feels great when I earn one today.

Great stuff!!! I too, recall, my biggest goal was to hear the knocker for a " free" game. Almost guaranteed alot of my quarters would go in that machine before I walked away...
