However, if two people are having a discussion and both are posting facts that are true and useful, but they disagree with each other, they both deserve upvotes. They have both contributed something of worth. Things in life are very rarely only one way or the other, it's often true that two opposing views are equally correct and valid.
A downvote SHOULD be for things that don't contribute anything of value or blatant misinformation. If you post something accurate, you don't deserve a downvote just because I disagree. Wax discussions have this problem frequently, as a quick example.
