Do you own or dream of owning a fortune teller? I have wanted one for years and come to the realization a used one is never going to happen. Curious is I am crazy in thinking I need to buy a new one!

No idea, I think of the movie BIG. Anyway I saw one last thursday traveling in Deadwood, S.D. it was cool and it worked.

There's a few companies that do make fortune teller games, but they sure aren't cheap.

    https://zoltar.org/

    https://www.charactersunlimited.com/characters/zoltar/

    https://www.bmigaming.com/games-arcade-fortunetellers.htm

Surprisingly, I've actually seen one out in the wild at a rest stop in the past year.

Also, I know where one of these has been on location for decades:

    http://www.pinrepair.com/arcade/mgrandp.htm

On top of that, Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum has several various fortune teller style games.

I always wanted to have one and instead of the fortunes, stock it with custom cards that say stuff like "I have gas" and "You wasted 50 cents" or "This is what your life has come to?" - gag cards.

    #5 5 years ago

the pinball company has a zoltar, but you're gonna pay heavily!

Custom cards are available, I found them on Characters Unlimited

It is my wife’s dream to have a Zoltar. To this point I cannot justify dropping the cash to buy one. I did get a T-800 for my birthday this year and wanted one for ever but couldn’t pull the trigger. I would assume in the future I will find the way to get it done. Probably a photo booth at some point as well because I am crazy.

There is a local place that has one of these and I prefer the females, somehow creepier.

Maybe it reminds me of Madame Leota in the Haunted Mansion.

Kevin, owner of the Flipside in Loveland, Colorado made one, pretty cool stuff.

Speaking realistically, how long before the novelty wears off?

Probably an hour, but cool decor and the guests would love it as well. A lot of things are collected for display like antiques, often think of an antique penny type arcade. Feel like those would quickly just sit as well. I just need a bigger space!

I've got this Characters Unlimited fortune teller. It was made for a shoe store, she (Gigi) has many different sayings...about shoes and running LOL! I was planning on changing her outfit and getting my wife to record some more appropriate mystical fortune teller speech. Her mouth movements are keyed to the recorded speech and there are custom message instructions on the CharUnlimited website. Anyway, she is just a little too tall for my basement so I'd be willing to let her go for 3800.00
This is the upgraded deluxe cabinet version, she has moving head, eyes, mouth, arm. Includes a new stack of generic fortune cards and even a custom shipping case!!! No coin mech but it's easy to add that if you want. These are very cool, doubt you will find one for less.
I'm about 20 min from Expo. If she sells I'll donate the normal fee to pinside, if not...maybe I'll turn her into a wrench predicting gypsy and keep her in the garage!

I just dropped the price to 2950.00 !! A few new pix added to the classified ad.
Would be an easy pick up if you are coming to the Chicagoland show.
If you wanted one of these at a reasonable price, now is your chance.
    Thx, Mark

Time to bring this thread back, I finally did it, no regrets, and quite frankly haven’t been this excited for a toy for a long time!

That’s awesome I am very jealous!!

    #21 3 years ago

Also which model did you get and where if you don’t mind me asking? I believe there is one that animatronic and one that doesn’t move as much.

    #22 3 years ago

Hey I forgot about this thread! RacerX sold the Gigi above to someone in WI and at the right price I brought her HOME! My wife loved the concept but the scary blond chick Had to go!! lol I did some creative wood working, metalwork and paint to convert the cabinet over to a home fitting for Zoltar! One call to Characters Unlimited and I had some of the internal pieces sent to me to make the final She to He conversion. Turned out Awesome and Zoltar Lives.

    Yes brand new!

I bought everything available, went with deluxe, if you want full feature just don’t get “economy”. Deluxe and standard are the same accept cabinet size. So it just depends on the space you have.

What was the ship time on one of those bad boys?

Pretty responsive company. As long as you opt for one of the stock models I think it only takes a few weeks. Word of warning, if you get the protective shipping case it a HUGE. Basically a band road case to transport the unit in about the size of a refrigerator. Have my case in the garage and store my winter tires in the cabinet lol. Great people to work with. Owner answers often and they help with anything. Not a cheap toy new though...

Very cool. Is this the one where the coin drops into Zoltar’s mouth?

No that was a one off made for the film. I do have the drawing and plan to make one for my game just for cosmetics.

    That blond chick IS creepy

    The new Zoltar is awesome!

    #30 3 years ago

There was a dude on here that was having the one made where the coin drops in the mouth. The project kept getting pushed back and back. I hope he eventually got it.

    The prototype was amazing.

A friend of mine and I took one of the 80s style fortune tellers and converted it to run off of a raspberry pi with a thermal printer so we could do custom fortunes. There’s a small rPi camera hidden in it that snaps a photo as soon as the player starts it. It’s connected to WiFi so it can talk to Amazon AWS to use their image recognition platform to identify people that have received fortunes before. The fortune it gives can be modified based on things like coming back too soon after being told to try again later or if there are multiple people in the photo. It will also pick certain people to always receive a positive or negative fortune, or even the exact same fortune.

    Ton of fun at parties!

Tell me about it! If anyone is in the market for used blond head and her hands let me know! (Lol I can only imagine where this is going to go). Converted over it was a steal and we love it now.

Posted back in feb of 2019. I was tempted to order one but never pulled the trigger. I love the antique ones with the wax heads and expanding contracting lungs but they go for crazy money. Last few I saw sold for 25-50,000.

Also have an Exhibit Supply 1930’s 1cent fortune teller.

I’ll look to see if I can find some of my old Mike Munves coin op catalogs that show some of the amazing antique machines from the 1920’s and 1930’s.

It took some digging thru boxes but I found some of the old mike munvees coin op catalogs from the early mid 50’s. Also found a reprint of a Mills catalog from 1912 with a couple really cool Fortune Tellers.

Cool to see the original front of my Crystal Gazer fortune teller that was replaced at some point. $75 original cost in the 50’s.
Hopefully someday I’ll add a life like grandma or other variation fortune teller to my collection! They are so damn cool!!!
