Do any of you guys tumble the GI lamp sockets after you clean the wire harnesses? The sockets themselves are not corroded or rusted or anything but they got a little grey when I threw the harness in the sonic cleaner. I am sure some time in the tumbler will shine them up nice but would hate to go through all that work desoldering and re-soldering

I have never done it my self but I would just a few first too find out I would think it should

If I'm going to the effort to remove them all I'd just replace em

You can. I did it once just to see the results.

They turned out great but I'm not sure the time and effort picking the media out of the sockets was worth it.

I'd be more interested in why they turned grey.

    What solution do you use?

Works fine, I've done it several times.

Same as you 50/50 water and purple power. They may have been grayish before and I am just losing my mind. By the way holy crap I can’t believe how clean the harnesses come out in the ultrasonic. I’ll post a picture when I get back in the basement

I've been doing 75 water/25 Purple power with the same results.

160 degrees. Follow your advice to a T. Can’t believe how f’ing clean the harnesses came. The place shit that came off them was unreal

Wow the wires are so clean is right just the light sockets

Spotless. I don’t have any close up before pics of them but they were pretty gross. I mean the sockets aren’t that bad, but I am going crazy with everything else as far is shiny shit. I know though that the time and effort to unsolder, pick the shells out of the sockets and resolder is a huge under taking.

I have tumbled them and they came out nice. I have a compressor and use an air gun to clean them out after tumbling.

How long do you leave the harness in for...or any parts?

I used to do 10 minutes with my older ultrasonic.

I bought a new more powerful one and 3 minutes or so is all I now need.

The longer you leave it in, the more discolored some metal will get.

It really worked on the wires but not so much on the sockets have you priced out new sockets or is it worth it

When I did the switch harness I left all the mounts that the micro switches go on and they came out totally fine.

I wonder if tumbling will even make a difference

Not enough to waste the time honestly.
