1 ball can make the difference indeed, even my doc told me! (kidding ofcourse)
At first I had some problems with this too, but then I had the 'restart game' possibility on. After I turned it off I learned to finish a game no matter how bad ball 1 was.
Sometimes the magic is not there on the first ball, just keep focussed and you'll get there eventually
