I get these every now and again and they drive me nuts. A split in the skin at the end of the finger just below the nail, often a little off to the side. Small and sometimes unnoticeable (they don't bleed or anything), they hurt when trying to flip and then sting like hell for days afterward.
To keep playing in those situations I use Robby's Skin Protector on them (it's bowler's pro shop stuff, like New-Skin only thicker) but it makes your finger throb a long time once it's in the wound.
A preventive I sometimes employ – crazy as it may sound – is to wear rubber fingertips on the index+middle fingers of each hand when I play, same as what's used in offices and banks for leafing/searching documents or counting lots of paper currency. (Would something like that even be allowed in PAPA/tournament play, anybody know?)
Anyone have another (better) way of dealing with these?
