Quoted from SadSack:

And still not a single person addresses my anecdotal story about my 87YO stepfather that got shingles 2 weeks after the shot.

Sometimes it's just easier to ignore real life cases when it doesn't fit someone's criteria or agenda. Like my mom who spent a lifetime in medical science that refuses to get a shot now.

Quoted from Irishbastard:

Tin Foil hat wearing is strong in this post..

Yes, I made that observation earlier in this thread.

Quoted from Amarillopinball:

I got my flu shot today with my kids.
..
My baby got a common virus which landed him in an induced coma for 3 weeks.
..

It sounds like you didn't address the problem within an appropriate time frame to me. Let me guess: He had a couple of jabs just before it happened.. no? Probably a nice Hep B shot in the hospital as a newborn just in case he did IV drugs or had risky sex before his 6th month of life. In fact, you are lucky if the hospital didn't accuse you of abuse if the baby had any encephalitis like symptoms.. such as brain swelling which often occurs with shaken baby syndrome (and is a listed side effect if you actually read the official drug insert that comes with the "vaccine".

To be fair I took a whack at it. But you threw a curveball by conceding up front that he got the vaccine too late, so it wasn’t really a “see, vaccines don’t work” kind of story. Also, even assholes like us are a little hesitant to joke about old people suffering from horrible afflictions.

What does a vaccine do? It triggers a response from your immune system to create antibodies to fight a viral infection. It takes time to reach maximum effect and there are numerous variables. Age is a big one.

#1105 4 years ago

If you think the government plans to control us through vaccines...I challenge you to travel where they aren’t available...and ask the general population what they think. If you don’t plan to travel there...don’t respond. I suspect there’re won’t be any responses. Otherwise, provide your travel itinerary.

I'm assuming you mean where they don't have running water, proper hygiene and proper food handling? Yes, disease runs rampant in places like that. That doesn't prove your point at all.

BTW, they don't plan on controlling you. They plan on KILLING you. Only after a long and expensive treatment.

Well, the guy wasn't exposed to anything out of the normal and he got sick 2 weeks after the shot. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see I was being facetious. It's obvious to everyone in my family what happened. In case you still don't get it: The shot got him sick.

You can’t assume it’s related. Different strains and all that malarkey. Flu shots are very helpful and REQUiRED in the medical profession. You don’t hear millions of medical employees complaining. These things SAVE LIVES!

For further background, I have a compromised immune system. I had sepsis and have valvular heart disease. I have an artificial mitral valve and take beta blockers, statins, and blood thinners. My doctor REQUIRES me to get a flu shot every year to to protect myself. Been doing it for years and no problems.

No, but I dug through filthy trash cans just so I could get a few pennies for the tin. And no, they wouldn't let me stay at a Holliday Inn Express last night.

I assume you’re being facetious now as well then, since you’ve got to know that you don’t have to be “exposed” to anything (other than the chicken pox virus when you were a kid) to develop shingles.

That said, I’m sorry your FIL got it, and that he wasn’t able to get the vaccine in time, it sounds miserable. I hope they’re able to make him comfortable. I know it can be hard to bounce back from an illness at that age.

I thank you for your genuine concern. Some people see things differently than others and I don't hold that against anyone. I do hold others' (what I feel misguided) moral superiority against them. If you take the jab, that's fine, but don't try to jab me.

BTW, what is the expected time for the shingles vaccine to become effective? Usually when you see someone get a shot and then get sick, normal reaction is to assume causality. Or is that possibility eliminated because the flyer says "safe and effective"?

Given I don't have a choice, I've learned to just get used to it. We have to go through work well, so all sorts of shots, immunizations, etc.

We all have a choice. You choose security and money. To think otherwise has an obvious cost. I understand completely. I question the inconspicuous cost.

Unfortunately the shingles vaccine is only 51% effective.

I bet the gubberment must think we are really dumb!

We are really dumb. Take a look around and see what is going on and no matter what you see or how bad it is you have seen only a small percentage. We should all be up in arms but we sit and do nothing. We should be like Hong Kong.

If I wasn't 100% against vaccines except for obviously the ones diseases that will kill I would say get the shingles vaccine. Nothing in my life has ever hurt me like shingles did and it was just a baseball sized spot on my shoulder. I was only like 28-30. It hurt to shower or wear clothes. Shit it hurt when the wind blew on it. Nothing made the pain go away, Drs wouldn't give me anything.

I was actually wrong on that as it was for the one vaccine but there is another that is much more effective.

For me, if im not going to die from it (or have something permanently bad happen), im not getting a vaccine. Pain makes you stronger!

#1122 4 years ago

Blitzbugh is misinformed. The flu shot covers 3 or 4 viruses each year. I’m a physician and have been receiving flu shots yearly for 25 years now. Occasionally, I do still get the flu but there is sufficient cross immunity between the strains that when I do get the flu I get a much milder case making me feel a little crummy for a couple days and not in bed sick for a week.

#1123 4 years ago

There were times when no one was around and I hit it on something that I wanted to cry like a little bitch.

But they DO complain. I know some of them. They would rather wear the surgical mask every day to work than take the shot concoction full of who knows what. Ever read the insert for the shot? Please do so before getting stuck with it.

#1125 4 years ago

About 10 years ago, I tried it...Never Ever again!!
Wife and sons still get it, all feel sick next 2 days. (although they haven't got the flu)..so, they still do it.
I never get the flu, why I tried it once is beyond me.
Wash hands all the time after public places..keep hands from nose and mouth = no flu..works for me..(senior citizen too). NP

Yes. Why? Science is real.
Elites? Well, we are running a large scale experiment right now about what happens when non-elites are in charge.

True "science" is never settled. We are always learning and always changing what we believed to be settled science over the years.

Just to play devils advocate...for those that don’t want vaccines...why do you go to the doctor and want drugs when you get the illness?

Can you list the ingredients that concern you and how they are harmful to you in those concentrations? I do agree with you that education is the key.

Ill play but give me examples. I don't usually go to the Dr unless Im dying. For example, have you ever had a anal fissure? Gross yes but you will pay double to make it go away.

The bitch of it is, we've got it pretty easy in the US. Most of us drive cars. When you have to use public transportation, there is a greater sense of appreciation for those who immunize. Some gal sneezed over me on a London subway and that was the nastiest cold I've had in a long time.

I spent some time in Japan and appreciated the tradition of people with respiratory bugs wearing dust masks to minimize exposing others. Especially on the crowded subway cars in Tokyo.

Surprised they aren't using the token fat, out of shape doctor they usually have when selling medical products on TV.

No, but the old women immediately whipped out her smart phone after getting out of the elevator for 4x the dose...black guy looks terrified as well

Looks like a scene out of one of those zombie movies. And on the right is Mr. French from Family Affair come back from the dead to haunt us.

#1140 4 years ago
Quoted from SadSack:

We all have a choice. You choose security and money. To think otherwise has an obvious cost. I understand completely. I question the inconspicuous cost.

True....it's a requirement of where I choose to work, and in alignment with my discipline.

Suspect an analogy would be if you choose to be a law enforcement officer, it comes with the risk of getting shot/ killed. The industry has tried very hard (some efforts better than others) to minimize this risk. Except generally, you would be the only one getting shot.

If you work around sick people all day, The Healthcare system has attempted (sometimes more successful than not) to protect its employees, family and anyone they come in contact with.

This should speak volumes to those wondering if they need the shot. Nothing is 100%, and the vaccine is no guarantee if you get exposed. You are, however, 100% guaranteed to be unprotected from any strains you come in contact with if you don't get one, and very real potential of spreading it to others. Remember, it's mostly airborne, so washing your hands isn't going to help.

Don't watch commercials..check the # (tens of thousands every year) who die from this stuff. Just not worth risking it. Get the shot....move on...

Geeze this poor lady just can’t catch a break...even the bus driver had the flu...thank goodness she ran to the Doctor for 4 TIMES THE DOSE

Control your people with fear...dictatorship 101

Wake up...it’s all around us

I just get super stoned before I turn on the TV and it's all comedy to me. To think anybody takes it seriously is even more comedy.

Then I realize the flu shot message is also coming out of every radio including a delivery truck that pulled up to my work yesterday, and eventually the walking zombies will be unable to resist.

I do the same thing. I cop a buzz and laugh at how stupid all the stuff on tv is.
That’s what happens when your kids are gone and you wife is a teacher and falls asleep at 9 because she has to get up at 5

Fear porn. Fear always sells product. It's a money making scheme at best and a debilitating dose of poison at the worst...

Hmmmm. Nasa you say? (Never A Straight Answer)

Yeah, found that in an unrelated topic on the web but thought it was interesting.

I wonder how badly the reported flu epidemic will be this year? Seems as though all sorts of things are coming back; measles, etc.

#1148 4 years ago

I don't get the flu shot, but my wife does. She got one on Thursday. By Sunday, she had a huge 4" diameter swollen circle on her arm at the site of the injection. By Tuesday she was complaining of a sore throat. As of yesterday she was laid up on the couch and will be calling off work for the next few days.

Take it for what it's worth, but every year she gets the flu shot and almost every year she gets sick within a few days.

Got my annual flu shot last weekend. In and out in 15 mins. Arm was midly sore the first night but that's it. Now I'm invincible!
