In typical Pinside fashion I will start an opposite thread. Do you ever just feel like buying them all.

I kind of do. I like to buy them all. I also know what I don't want and have no trouble moving those games out. When an opportunity comes up to buy a trailer load of projects I go for it. I would love the chance to buy out some old operators or warehouses. I would also jump at the chance to buy complete collections.

To me, buying them is one of the fun parts of the hobby. If you get a deal on a game you want that is the time to buy. It doesn't bother me at all if I have to let it sit until later before i get to it.

I get the part about anxiety when they are broken but that is pretty low level for me. Our minds all work differently. I have also never had a problem getting the unwanted games to go away. There are always people looking to buy projects and finished games.

    What about you?

no, cant afford a nib, so i will continue to be happy with all my options on route to play the latest games. I will continue to buy older games at a price I am comfortable with paying and let others enjoy the nib ride.

I agree. NIB is rarely the best route for me. I love old solid state games.

    Playing - YES
    Buying - NO

Nowadays, while I think that every machine has potential, only a select few check all the boxes for me.
Even if money were no object I'd still pass on quite a few.

I once thought like this, but then I bought a Gottlieb system 3.

In addition to the money that would be required, space for numerous machines would be an issue for me.
Electrical load would have to be considered.
An air conditioned area would be a must...
And, my wife would probably lose her mind...

No. But if I ever win the mega lottery...

Actually, the reason we have the high prices (IMO, of course) right now is because some people WILL buy any turd of a game that comes out.

To be clear. I don't have the money or the space to buy them all, far from it. Doesn't stop the urge though.

I cant help myself when I find cheap one or a project that needs a bit of love. But nib is just too expensive for me at the moment.

You damn right! I'd have a collection of buildings to house my collection!

    #15 4 months ago

no, but i would like to have the space so i could have examples of each type/era

Less and less. Moving pinball machines around is a huge pain in the ass.

These days I always try to leave a little space so I have some breathing room in the shop, and in case a "can't say no" deal pops up.

Kind of like a threesome. Sounds good in theory but a lot of times you don’t know what to do with everything.

Never had the urge to buy everything but definitely had the urge to try and complete a certain genre. I really enjoy the hunt (but then i feel obligated to buy..). I did want to collect all 30 system 11’s for example. But just to have them and feel accomplished, not because i think they are all great players.

Space is not a problem but as a one person operation it would only add to the length of the repair queue so no.

Plus if project machines sit around for too long at my storage facility I inevitably start raiding them for parts.

Not really, but if I had more time, space, money and repair skills....

    Gotta Grab Each One!

Or something like that. I never played Pikachoo
