I enjoy shopping a new game out for the first time. What's strange about it is that I have to be playing a movie in the background to give me something to listen to. Today I noticed that I'm watching movies that were made in the days of back when I was playing in arcades. Today it was Flash Gordon. Tomorrow it will probably be Rad or grease lightening. Do any of you watch tv while working on machines? What do you normally watch? Are you music only? Figured it would be a interesting topic.

Eighties playlist on my iPhone connected to its Bose amp. It’s my go to for pins, cars, sex, etc.

    TMI?

    #3 6 months ago

May be forbidden to say here, but I generally have "K's" Podcast on while painting mods

    #4 6 months ago

    I listen to pinball podcasts.

    #5 6 months ago

Lots of podcasts, NPR, Freakonomics, music sometimes, but usually pro wrestling related for some reason. Some of that stuff is fascinating, and I love to hear the backstage stuff from when I was a kid

    #6 6 months ago

Usually sports or different Pandora playlists. My go to is a Joy Division list ive been tweaking for 4 years

    #7 6 months ago

That is what the jukebox in my shop is for.

    TV is on.

Just remember to, 'Not glance up at the TV, while reaching for the soldering iron'.

    #9 6 months ago

Podcasts, youtube videos that are basically podcasts, audiobooks, music, familiar TV shows or movies (so I don't get more engrossed by that than what I'm working on).

I usually either use my phone or put a tablet on a wire bookstand. Sometimes I'll set up a laptop, but that tends to take up too much table space.

    #10 6 months ago

do this all the time. Mine ranges from older movies I like, to old shows macgyer, knight rider, videos on youtube such as arcade repair tips, scam baiter channels where the people call and mess with the scammers from the "IRS", episodes of Rescue 911 ect. Rarely do I listen to music. I always thought it was weird for me to do this as 90% of the time I can't even watch what I am listening to because I am busy doing something. Glad to see I am not alone.

    #11 6 months ago

Sounds weird but I usually put on some old Sherlock Holmes movies with basil rathbone and Nigel Bruce or some mst3k episodes. Re!axing to me . YouTube has a lot to choose from.

Can you PM me your tweaked Joy Division playlist? - I would be interested.

I listened to "Substance" the last time I did extended work on a game but I think it only has 1 or 2 Joy Division songs,

    #13 6 months ago

For me its a pinball stream on Twitch, usually Dead Flip.

I dont know how to send a specific playlist, you can pm me if you know how. Just been adding bands i like through the years and thumbing up or down for songs i like/dont. Over the years it plays almost exclusively thumbed up songs now...

    #15 6 months ago

    Usually just listen to music.

    #16 6 months ago

    Porn or Macarena.

I like to mix it up.

    LTG : )

    #17 6 months ago

    Talk radio.

    #18 6 months ago

I listen to the Adam Carolla podcast(s) anytime I'm working on games.

    #19 6 months ago

Used to be football. It's cold outside and I'm busy with a project. Oh well.

Oh ok. so you are playing a Joy Division station and fine tuning the output with thumbs up or down ? maybe just send the top 5 that made the top of your queue, or the songs that mean the most to you.

I am embarrassed I know most of New Order catalog and hardly any Joy Division songs. Enlighten me please!

But never get the two confused.

Classic Howard Stern on YouTube. So much great stuff there from the nineties. Baba booey to you all and eff Jackie!

Then I listen to Celtic Woman or Country Sisters.

Less-involved sports like baseball provide me some entertainment and background noise I need.

I also like popping on a movie. Usually either something I've seen before, or something that I know won't require too much attention. To me, it's a good way to catch up on some of those movies that slipped by me for a lot of years, but may not hold up all that well. I fondly remember shopping out a gorgar while watching the original Total Recall. I also watched a couple of seasons of Workaholics while shopping a STTNG.

    #26 6 months ago

Lately Sopranos or Big Bang Theory. I have seen them all no need to watch.

    #27 6 months ago

    Always something on vinyl.

    #28 6 months ago

I would play episodes of X-Files while working on my arcade machines.

I like that idea.. a show I haven't seen that I don't want to dump a bunch of dedicated time into.

    #30 6 months ago

Generally just crankin the tunes like Will Ferrell washing a trans am. I sing along
    too, loudly.

On rare occasion in the fall I’ll put a football game on. But any game I care about I’m going to make a point of watching at home or a bar.

    #31 6 months ago

3 screaming kids and a wife.

    #32 6 months ago

Talk radio, or podcasts, or Pandora.

If you like improv, try “Hello From The Magic Tavern”.

Bowen's PAPA tutorial videos. Seems to work well and is appropriate to the task at hand.

    #35 6 months ago

    Phish or Ween shows

    #36 6 months ago

I may have to try some music today to change it up. Good to know I'm not the only one that has to have something going on in the background.

    #37 6 months ago

    Metal, metal, and more metal.

    #38 6 months ago

My go to was always Law and Order it's always on on some channel.

    #39 6 months ago

Football when it’s on. Movies when it’s not. It’s also hooked up to my security camera system. I added a steel platform in the corner to store games so that’s why the two look different.

    My jukebox!

    #41 6 months ago

Whatever happens to be on regular TV at the time, usually it's The Simpsons or American Pickers.
Occasionally I'll find a pin era appropriate movie for the machine I'm working on, like Wargames, Goonies, Real Genius...

    TMI?

YUCK, we don't want to hear about the cars

    #43 6 months ago

I put youtube videos of pinball restos or tech tips / workshops.

    #44 6 months ago

Usually Judge Judy or People's Court

    #45 5 months ago

Basically ripped all of my CDs and use ZenPoint's Music Center as a front end. I just let it randomly play.
Converted a scratch built game cab (no real games hurt ) to hold everything.
