My guess is that if you connect it the wrong way it will spin in the opposite direction. I'm sure others will give you the correct answer.

Can you power the motor without connecting to the game. That will give you direction. What voltage does the motor run on?
DC motors are polarized and timed in some cases. when the motor is timed anything other than zero it will turn higher rpm or torque with positive polarity and lower rpm or torque with polarity reversed
probably safe to power it with a 9 in short bursts to determine polarity
It'll spin the opposite way if connected wrong and then blow a fuse on your board. I had the same mistake once.
