I just purchased a Taxi knowing that the GI isn't working. I quickly found that the GI Input J6 was burned pretty bad. From what I can tell this is a common problem (also noticed minor damage at J9 and J10, also common). I have a friend with some soldering skills, but is this type of damage repairable by a non-professional? Unfortunately, I can't find any reproduction ICBs for Taxi. Great Lakes Modular sells System 11 ICBs, but not for Taxi. I'm a bit concerned that I only have one chance at fixing this since a replacement is not readily available. Thanks for the advice!

That does not look too bad. I would de solder the pads and remove the connector. Then look it over really good and make sure the pads and traces have not lifted or been to badly destroyed. Then clean board and replace connector.

To get a good look at what is really under that burnt solder paste - use a toothbrush and alcohol and clean the crud off.

J-7 needs fixing too.

For a beginner board repair, this could be a nice easy introduction, or it could get a bit messy if those pads come up or something bad. Not easy to tell before you do it though.

It's worth a shot! At very worst you can just end up with an ugly fix with jumper wires going to each pin and it'll 'work' fine, there's no need to worry about ruining the board and not being able to find another

Quoted from GRUMPY:

Absolutely correct. I meant J7, but for some reason wrote J10.

Thanks for all of the responses! Looks like we'll try and tackle this ourselves.
