Hey guys,

First post. Sorry if this isn't the right place for it.

I just got a Bally DnD, and it was working great till I left it for about a half hour to check emails. I'm assuming it went into attract cause it started making bell noises constantly, but it wouldn't let me start a game and no buttons were responsive. I restarted the machine and now all it does is boot up to a few white lights behind the stand up targets and under the slings and what not.

Can't do anything. No buttons responsive. Can't enter service menu. Does nothing but sit here on boot.

I've left it unplugged for a half hour but no change. Fuses look good but I will check them for continuity with a meter tomorrow.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Sounds like you lost something from your power supply. Check Pinwiki on what to check.

Welcome.

Has any maintenance work been done that you are aware of? Has the power rectifier board been replaced and the connectors checked or replaced on that board?

Remember this is a 40 year old machine that was originally built to last 5 years at best, it is going to require a lot of upkeep if you weren't aware of that.

The MPU in the backbox has an LED on it. Turn on the game with the backbox open and count the number of flashes on the LED. That may pinpoint what is wrong as each flash checks a different part of the system.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. The upkeep is cool - I definately need to learn more about it first though.

As far as maintenance goes I'm unsure. Only got the machine a few days ago, not sure what previous owner has done.

The sound board LED seems to be making it past all 6 flashes.

The control board LED is only making it to three flashes. The manual indicates 4th flash checks CMOS Ram U4 so I'll start there.

I'll also check the PS tonight for good measure.

Game off, open up the backbox and reseat all your wiring connectors. Just pull up slightly and push back down including ribbon cables. Sounds like maybe a flaky or dirty connector somewhere.

Turn the game back on and see if it's good after that. If not, then start digging into fuses, voltages, etc.
