Hi,
Suddenly my dot matrix display is showing “lines” - and the problem follow the DMD, even if I try it in other machines. Other DMD also works fine in the machine where the problem started.
Can this be fixed, or is it kaput?

I don't know anything about repairing DMDs, but I was reading other forums/sites like https://www.pinballmedic.net/, etc and might have an idea.
If the issue follows the DMD through multiple machines, it might be a DMD connector somewhere on the DMD itself.
I saw a video somewhere of a guy who had a DMD which was showing a few missed dots, but still played videos/pictures. He pushed the board connector in further and the issue went away, good as new.
Thinking along these lines, you can try and look at the DMD and see if the wires are securely connected inside the connectors themselves.
Hopefully this helps!
I read on pinwiki that replacing a rom will fix the dmd if it has lines. I don't remember which one it is
Changing the ROM will not fix this issue.
We need a better picture. I don't see "lines" in the display.

Hi United555
I had a problem with my DMD a few months ago. My DMD issue was caused by a faulty computer chip.

I hope my post can help you to sort this issue.
Cheers
From what I read, you proved the problem follows the DMD and another DMD works in the game. That is a good start.
Can you set your voltmeter to DC voltage and see if you can tell the resistors along the edge of the DMD on the columns and rows are pulsing? Wedge your black ground meter lead under the ground braid wire in the bottom of the backbox so you only have to worry about holding the red meter lead. I think if you measure 10 of each of the two sides, I think I would get a feel if it is a column problem or a row problem. I also would have to ask, do you have surface mount solder experience? Pretty much guarantee a problem will be a surface mount part.
