I would confirm the DMD is a problem in another game before I start any work on it. I seen power supplies cause the same type of issues. Is that the only diode you found shorted? Also I would replace all the capacitors. I guarantee all the other smaller ones are starting to leak as well, not just C2.

I had changed those parts before, 10X magnification is definitely required to be sure you are not causing solder shorts. I hope you don't damage the pads/traces to the part removing the part as it is tough to run wires to fix trace issues.

I had repaired 5 DMDs so far. Sometimes it is just the one at fails at the -112v rail, sometimes the 4 that use the 62v rail. Depends on what happened between the DMD and the voltage from the power supply (DE) or the WPC DMD controller (Bally/Williams)
