Quoted from awarner:Cool! So did Gary Stern INVENT the pinball machine and patent it? Maybe it was his father Sam? This is about a patented device that Randy invented after researching and developing for over 3 years. We DO NOT NEED to circumvent his work or dig into his profits. In some ways, a little competition is a very bad thing. Sorry that you feel that theft of invention is an OK thing.
I'm obviously not going to be able to say anything that makes you happy, so sorry about that. I honestly am not trying to personally offend you.
Your personal experience is causing you to jump to extremes. Again, I'm sorry that you've had experience with someone stealing your product, but I am not promoting theft, just exploring whether or not there are ways of doing something similar without violating patents, copyrights, etc, assuming that no one would want to make something publicly available that is in violation.
Whether or not DMDExtender gets full on colorization, it is already a potentially competing product that is currently available to buy, that already has the potential to cut into the profits of ColorDMD sales. Any viable display has the potential to cut into their profits.
DMDExtender has features that I think are better than ColorDMD like the ability to have multiple displays and an apron display. If ColorDMD added these features, they would have an even better product, in my opinion, but they likely wouldn't develop that feature unless they were losing sales to someone who offers it.
That is how I see competition being a good thing.
We don't need to keep going back and forth. You have your view and I have mine. Ultimately I'm not going to be the one to produce anything that competes with ColorDMD, so I'm just a guy on a forum having a conversation.
Thanks,
Jim
