firstly this is a great thread and want to make this type of magnetic reed switch for a personal mod and your thingiverse article looks good DDDwingmaster as well as all the other info especially the graphics german-pinball .

Question: on the thingiverse design there is no diode and on the graphic and original bally/wms there is a diode - what is the purpose of the diode?

just wanted to revive this old thread as have a special application where I need a custom MRS. I know Sonic makes them but it was going to blow my budget as need 4 per mod.

I got a custom MRS running with the reed switch, diode and two 5 x 5mm square magnets that are each 2mm thick.

I am getting 3.5mm sensing range, would larger magnets increase the sensing range?

Just tested my MRS and getting 12-15mm range on say a steel ruler and about 7-8mm on a 3-4mm dia allen key.
