No, it should be directly on the display glass.

I don't think it matters. I tried 4 or 5 on my games both ways, and it looks the same.

I just received my Rubylith sheets today to try on my Williams Getaway HSII that I purchased from eBay seller referred to within this topic. First of all, seller had good communication and the item arrived on time and packaged well. I purchased two pre-cut sheets and noticed that both have some variance in the red coloring throughout the filter. I assume this is normal, and not really noticeable except on a fully lit DMD.

I first tried placing the filter on the outside of the window just to see how it would look. This made the DMD appear a little hazy. So, I next tried removing the DMD, placing the filter down between the DMD posts (i.e. not all the way down in the space where it would touch the backside of the window, which would require cutting. Rather, suspended above the window opening where the DMD glass would come into contact with it). After just centering on the opening, I put the DMD back on and assembled as normal. This looked much better, and the haziness went away.

My overall assessment, however, is that I don't really care for it on this particular pin. It creates more of a blood red color instead of a bold or bright red, and it takes a way some of the brightness as you might expect a color filter to do. I think if I had a blood themed pin (vampires, zombies, etc.), then I might like it much better. The filter performs as advertised, but just not the right application for me.

I've included a couple of side-by-side before and after pics for everyone to see. I will say that the red coloring of the filter in the photo looks better than it does in real life.
