I used led strip lights...
20190402_181714 (resized).jpg20190402_182027 (resized).jpg
I included a cross piece to make 2 separate light boxes in case you want to use colored LEDs, you wont get color bleed into the DMD....

This is removable if you prefer to use a 24x24 LED panel instead of strip lights...

If you have the game specific speaker panel as seen in this TOM example, its an easy swap...

From what I understand, system 11 backglasses will fit in these also (however, you cant use game specific speaker panel for alpha-numeric)
Some may poo poo displaying a system 11 glass with a DMD, but I think its still cool...
I will try with my bad cats glass later and post pics...

Had a few people ask about the LEDs used, I get mine (5050 non waterproof cool/warm white) for about $6 a roll on ebay. One roll is enough to complete a display.
Some have told me they used a 24"x24" LED panel, they cost a lot more but are much easier to wire...

I am working on offering some that will be more finished (painted/stained with LEDs installed and wired), I should have a few done by the weekend.....however, the price will reflect that I dont like to paint and wire these...
Stay tuned!

Thanks George, im sure there is still a bit of room for improvement but these last few that have left the shop look great.
I have a few guys waiting for some displays that are sanded, filled, primed, painted and have LEDs installed (plug and play models), I will have them done by this weekend. After those orders are filled and I get a few extras completed I will start a seperate thread with details and pricing...
Just finished this guy today...

Great idea. Fair price.
Nice job

#18 6 months ago

Great idea! It looks awesome!
As soon as I have my own game room again I am getting at least 2 of those

System 11 glasses fit also, purists will scoff at the dmd/alpha numeric hybrid...but I'm not a purist.
Obviously bad cats is a bad choice due to the large window for the animation...but the dimensions are correct.

I would love a few of these for my spare translites. Our Aussie dollar kills the price though.
