Be a shame if distributors jacked up the price before LE buyers could when flipping it to the next guy.
Quoted from Beechwood:Here is the simple solution.
Stern should set MSRP at what the market is playing out. So set MSRP at $13,500 for the LE, but keep the Minimum retail price for distributors where it is.
This way Distro's can make more, or discount the LE's and keep their customers happy.
I have an easier solution. Don't buy LE's period. It's a game and somehow it's unfair for retailers to play. Perfectly fine for everyone else to profit but not retailers.
I love how some of you are threatening retailers that they will lose business if they increase price on LE's. That's hilarious. You know you are going to pay. You always do. It's the same complaining about Stern raising prices every year. How many people over the years said they are no longer buying nib because of price? Sales are better than ever. Mando LE is sold out after just a small tease video.
Quoted from pinb1:No LEs for the route but being in the business a long time I am a collector as well as an operator. I felt this game would have made a great addition next to the Star Wars LE I have
You can always get one later. Being limited, only so many can buy nib. Probably end up saving a lot as well. Prices just about always settle down after other games come out and hype fades. Problem is nobody wants to wait and willing to pay extra to get it now. That's the market.
Quoted from JohnTTwo:Not true. I was at a dealer today and their Stern rep called while I was there and asked if they wanted 2 more LE’s.
And those will be gone the instant the dealer gets them. Your point?
Quoted from VMAX:It’s not a strawman at all. It’s me wondering how many have double standards based on whether they’re buyers or sellers, the latter making their living from negotiable sales items in a supply-and-demand market that’s an inferno.
And not all the ads on Pinside are for $5-6k over MSRP. Several are in the $10-11k price range. The principle applies, regardless.
Is there a specific price or over-MSRP-% that determines “gouging”? And what is the term for a “moderate” surplus over MSRP?
Everyone knows the answer to that. You always sell at market value. That is not gouging. You can try to be the nice guy and sell a pin at well below value. However, chances are whoever scoops up that deal will just flip it for profit. Problem is not with Stern or dealers, it's with buyers willing to spend extra.
Quoted from IdahoRealtor:Dealers marking up brand new items over MSRP is gouging and bad form, plain and simple. Makes them look bad and makes customers feel bad. Do you people supporting this behavior enjoy getting reamed?
Also, buying LEe has always been a bit of a gamble, which is a big part of the appeal. Some end up being good long-term investments (see Tron LE and BIBLE), others not so much. If all distributors begin price gouging on the LEs then there's likely no potential upside for customers and greatly diminished appeal. It's short sighted and bad business. Any distributors doing this can kiss my ass and kiss my business goodbye.
If people are willing to pay more I don't think it matters one bit. How many times have you seen people complain about prices and vow never to buy nib again? Neither Stern or JJP have any problems selling pins. In fact, quite the opposite. They have big problems keeping up with demand.
