We face this on the streets daily in NYC, at least when the tourists are here. We hate tourists!!
(Come back tourists we need you!!)
(They actually are back. It’s been pretty busy around here lately).

I've lived in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, and Woodside Queens back when I worked downtown (5th and 42nd across from Bryant Park). Maybe that's where I picked it up

Strollers should be banned at Disney! They're the worst!
I'm NOT talking about the metal contraptions that families use.
I'm talking about strollers - people who just stroll. They just spread their whole group out across the entire walking path and slowly stroll. Just looking around but somehow oblivious to everyone else in the park who are trying to get by.

Some people do that during the races. Very annoying. It’s like they don’t want anyone passing them.

Or during the race, when they see a photographer, they just stop. Can’t remember how many times I’ve heard cast members yell “don’t stop, keep moving!!!” It’s never the people in the marathons, it’s usually the 5k and 10k where that happens.

I did an Avenger's half out in Anaheim. I remember this one poor girl in of of the earlier corrals tripping over the reflectors they have on the road out there and knocking herself out on the pavement within 5 feet or so of the starting line. I don't know how she didn't get trampled to death.

I still need to do one down here in Florida, but it gets too hot to train distance in anything but the winter months.

Pricing is released for the lightning lanes.
Who here plans on using Genie plus and/or paying for the lightning lanes?

I haven't seen the pricing, but I'm assuming/guessing it's pretty high?

Lightning Lane Individual Attractions – Varies (Average $7 – $15 Per Guest Per Attraction)
Genie+ – $15 Per Guest Per Day

IMO, they aren’t charging enough.

Genie plus should be $50.

And front of the line passes for select rides should be $75.

Need to have less people in those lines, and all the attraction wait times drop tremendously.

We have Magic Keys for DL and won’t get them. We go enough that we just enjoy the day and get to what we get to.
We’re planning to go to WDW in the spring and do two days per park. We may get them the second day at a park to maximize time. Already will be spending a ton so what’s another $240 bucks for the 4 of us added onto the trip?

It'll be interesting to see how many people use it. I'm guessing the genie+ portion will be used much more heavily at some parks than others. I can't see much reason to pay for that at animal kingdom for example.

I've heard the new "extra magic hours" that started is amazing. Walk right on most rides and the longest wait was 20 minutes for Peter Pan. This is the extended hours for Deluxe resort guests and DVC members only.

Instead of paying for Genie+, we are going to skip anything with long lines, but stay late and hit all that stuff after the park closes.

Make sure you check the dates. It isn’t everyday. And it’s only for Epcot and Magic Kingdom, I’d imagine MGM will eventually be added.

Me personally, I’m not paying the extra to stay in a deluxe room to get the benefit of 1 night for 2 hours at the magic kingdom. I just don’t see the benefit for Epcot. That park is easy to get done in 1 day.

The pandora rides, especially flight of passage always have long wait times

True but that one is not included in the genie+. That's one of the separate lightning Lane ones.

Navi River journey is included in genie+ and that is probably the only included attraction on the list where it could be useful. But even that ride usually has reasonable lines at certain parts of the day. Plus let's be honest, that ride is nice but not really something that a lot of people will pay extra for.

The safari can have a long line as well. Everest and Dinosaur are usually pretty quick.

Speaking of strollers, I once brought up on a disney board my irke at scooters. They should only be used for the disabled and not fat asses who can't get around because they are out of shape.

I was almost drawn and quartered after that comment.

Oh, man, those are fighting words on the Disney forums

I've seen that exact argument play out many, many times in many, many separate threads on those boards.

I used to read those forums a lot, but never made an account or posted. Those forums can get downright nasty. Way more than pinside. Always seemed odd to me for Disney forums.

I love to talk about Disney parks, but I prefer to do that right here.

The other thing that always seems odd to me is the number of people on those forums who seem to really dislike kids. It's weird. I mean, if you don't like kids that's fine, but seriously, you might want to rethink your favorite vacation destination.

We won’t be paying for Genie plus or lightning lane. My family of 4 would need to spend $60 on Genie plus and $60 just for rise of the resistance. I think people that are there for just a day or two will pay because they want to get the most out of it, but Annual Passholders like us that are there all the time won’t be paying. I was there for 16 days last trip, $60 a day for genie plus and another say average of $80 a day for lightning lane passes would cost me $2,240 EXTRA. No way. I’m already paying between $200-$400 a day between resort and food depending on where we are at, sometimes even more, and the annual passes are 5k plus a year.
I honestly think Disney will end up losing money on this. People have a finite amount of money to spend on vacation and will just budget elsewhere. Already seeing people talking about staying offsite or shortening their stay or eating dinner offsite.
Disneyland Paris has already had to reduce their prices on their similar system. I hope this system bites them in the butt and it fails miserably. We are a family of lifelong Disney fans who have had it and we aren’t the only ones. If they offered me a prorated refund on my annual passes I’d take it today.

I crack up when I see parents say “I must bring my little Johnny to Disney. It’s a must!!!” It’s really funny when little Johnny is only 6 months old.

The lazy people on scooters are, in my experience, some of the most entitled, rude, unpleasant people in the park. After walking around all day, I finally got a seat waiting at blue bayou for our reservation. Someone dropped their sunglasses on the way into the restaurant, and I got up to give them to them as they hadn't noticed. On the 5 steps back from my good deed, I saw that an enormous woman had removed herself from her scooter seat and taken my seat on the bench. I couldn't believe it. This person who had been literally sitting all day stole my seat knowing full well I only left it for a second to help someone.

Time to ban scooters for everyone except people with legitimate mobility disabilities.

I’ve always wondered how the really big people get to Disney.

Years ago, the biggest shirt size they sold at the parks was XXL. Now it’s up to 5X they sell. Just crazy.

But if you look too, it’s so easy to eat like crap there. One can easily consume 4,000 calories a day.

I admit to hitting 4,000 in a day….but that’s the day of when I’m running the marathon! Not just walking around the park.

I’m glad they did away scooters being an automatic fast pass. That was really abused for years.

I think the new system is far more fair where people who can’t wait in line get a return time that is equal to the current wait time.

Yep you nailed it. We have a finite budget. I would rather buy an extra day or two at the park then buy these passes.

The problem with the big price hikes is now Disney has our family considering changing our week long Disney trips into a couple days at Disney and the rest at Universal, Seaworld, etc instead. They’ll lose big with us, but maybe there’s enough high rollers to fill the gap.

If you're walking around the parks all day, you're probably walking more than 10 miles. If think for most people it's a decent excuse to eat a little extra. At WDW this year, our first day at animal kingdom we hit 30,000 steps, and that was with the reduced hours. I ran the WDW marathon once and I can't imagine doing the parks after that. I needed a recovery day. I wonder how many daily miles you can get doing the marathon and a park?

That woman is crazy, if that post is even real. But I am sort of disappointed in what Disneyland has become in that it used to be something that everyone could enjoy in the same way, but now it's so cluttered with wannabe influencers and youtubers and people who show up just for limited edition merch or whatever the current Disney ploy is to take money from people without kids. There are so many people who just view Disneyland as a lifestyle that they make it harder for the people who just want to enjoy it on the rare occasion that they go.

I will say that when I used to go before having kids, I would get frustrated with parents not controlling their kids well enough, as kids seemed to constantly crash into me, not looking where they're going. And of course, stroller traffic is a problem. But now that I have kids I'm more sympathetic. When Disney cracked down on larger strollers, that felt to me like a moment when Disney deliberately started favoring adults without kids, and part of a larger movement of catering to child free adults with lots of expendable income.

The only time I think the extra magic hours at night are really useful is over a busy holiday like christmas (when us locals avoid the parks anyways) or if you are the type that likes to leave and hit the pool at your resort for a few hours during the heat of the day, and head back in at night. Mid-day pools breaks are a game changer.

Early morning extra magic hours are okay, but the park staff tends to let the rest of everyone else into the parks a bit early, so it really isn't as much time as you would think. It usually was only enough to hit one or maybe 2 big rides before it gets busy.

Its interesting for me to follow this thread.

Even though Im there whenever I wish, we simply find ourselves going only a couple times every few years.
Im sure, there will be more as my Granddaughter gets older.

I saw on the News that the Average Hotel cost for the upcoming Holidays is $500-$600 a Night around the country

What do you guys see out there, looking and booking in Otown, this Holiday season?

Here’s how I do the dopey challenge:

Tuesday - fly in, go to Epcot. In room and asleep by 7:30pm.

Wednesday- wake up 2am, breakfast. Stretch. Then I walk around the resort to kill some time. Hit expo at 9am. Animal kingdom afterwards. Bed at 730pm.

Thursday- wake up 2am, breakfast, stretch, get on bus by 3am for 5K. MGM afterwards. Bed at 7:30pm.

Friday - wake up 2am, breakfast, stretch, get on bus by 3am for 10K. Magic kingdom afterwards. Bed at 7:30pm.

Saturday - wake up at 2am, breakfast, stretch, get on bus by 3am for half marathon. Hang around the resort for the day. Bed at 7:00pm.

Sunday - wake up at 1:30am, breakfast, stretch, get on bus by 2:30am for marathon. Go back to room, stretch, stretch, stretch, relax a little bit. Go to magic kingdom.

Monday - magic kingdom. Waking up normal time. Lol

Tuesday- MGM. Take the last flight home at night.

Went to Orlando for a week in late September. We did five Disney park days and one day at both Universal parks. Incredible time. Going to go back in 2022, might add in a day at Seaworld.2B151108-E4E6-4EEE-9950-09584C55433F (resized).jpeg2B151108-E4E6-4EEE-9950-09584C55433F (resized).jpeg

So, we did every single ride at all four parks with very few exceptions (the Aerosmith one at Hollywood Studios being the only significant miss).

Here were our favorites for each park:

Magic Kingdom:

1) Big Thunder (the olfactory sensation of this ride put me right back to being a kid…it was incredible since I hadn’t been to Disney in over 30 years).
2) Haunted House.
3) tie: Pirates and 7 Dwarfs

*notable comment, the Teekee Room was hysterical…I’m glad both it and the country bears were still there.

Hollywood Studios:

1) Twilight Zone / Tower of Terror
2) Rise of the Republic
3) Slink Dog

Animal Kingdom:

1) Safari
2) Everest
3) Dino Ride

Epcot

1) can’t remember what it was called, hoisted us into the air for a four video of planet earth film with fresh air and various smells. Was very cool.
2) the big Epcot ball
3) Frozen

*note on Epcot, it also had the only ride we did not enjoy the entire week. The one simulating the force of blasting off from earth by spinning you around really fast…gave us a head ache and sent us packing early that day.

As a complete disney nerd, I need to chime in.

It’s called The Tiki Room. Thank good they brought back the original show. Under New Management was down right awful.

For Country Bear Jamboree, I wish they would bring back the Christmas Show.

The Epcot ride is called Soarin’.

The Epcot ball is called Spaceship Earth.

You haven’t been to Disney in over 30 years….I think I’d rather be water boarded than wait 30 years.

When I’m Epcot, did you stop at any of the Food & Wine booths?

Did you do The American Adventure?

Next time you go, make sure to hit flight of passage at animal kingdom. If you loved soarin you'll probably love flight of passage. It's like soarin on steroids, although it's in a completely fictional world. Soarin is cool because it's flying over the real world. (Though still uses lots of CGI).

The ride at Epcot that you did not enjoy is called Mission Space and is awful. When it first came out people were throwing up constantly so they had to come up with a less harsh version of the ride. They have orange and green now, green being the less motion sickness of the two, I think they don’t use the spinning on green. For us we just pretend the ride doesn’t exist, I did not care for it at all the last time I rode it maybe 14 years ago
Glad you had fun besides that ride!

You’re 100% correct. That is mission space.

IMO, mission space needs to removed. Horizons was 100x better than mission space. However. With the new restaurant, mission space isn’t going anywhere.

I just saw a report that the new genie+ thing will only be able to be used once for each ride per day. So you can't fast pass a ride more than once.

And for the separate lightning Lane attractions, my understanding is that you can only buy 2 per day total.

The worst is what they do to the busses. I don't know what it's like at DL, but at WDW they are a disease all in itself.

Again --when I see one with legitimate needs, I make a hole and make sure those in front of do as well. Or a wounded vet, or a grandma in her 90's with her grandkids, etc.

But when I see people my age that are out of shape, but clearly can walk, it drives me insane.Plus these are the people who bump up on your ankles while your walking and drive through the crowd expecting YOU to move. There is no reason for it other than laziness and the American diet.

Actually, Covid has been great at the parks, as most of these people have stayed home. Our last 2 visits I saw a lot less of them.

*note on Epcot, it also had the only ride we did not enjoy the entire week. The one simulating the force of blasting off from earth by spinning you around really fast…gave us a head ache and sent us packing early that day.

That's Mission Space, my favorite ride at EPCOT. Did you do the green or orange? Green isn't too bad, orange is "partytime!".

I don’t know how most of these people fit on the rides.

I had read a while ago, that the boats at its a small world had to be re-done, because the boats kept scraping the bottom and getting stuck from the excess weight.

They obviously aren’t getting on space mountain, splash mountain, Tron coaster, test track, mission space, soarin’, etc.

I feel bad for them being so big, but some self responsibly needs to be in place. I’m not advocating that we all have 6 packs. I’ll never have one, but the biggest shirt size Disney should be selling is XXL, not 5X.

When you see those people in the park, they are eating all the sugar crap Disney makes. It’s actually quite easy to eat healthy there….but you need to stay out of the candy shop.

What’s funny, as a kid, I always ate like crap. Now as an adult doing the races there, I keep it on the healthy side. After I run the marathon, it’s a free for all for 48 hours…I earned it. LOL

We always have a bit of trouble finding food at Disneyland (especially with how hard it was getting reservations). We started bringing a cooler backpack and packing a bunch of food / snacks. Works out well, especially since we have a stroller, so its easy to leave wherever.

PcDev on youtube has a pretty detailed breakdown of the new genie, genie+ and lightning lanes. It is starting Oct 19.

Quoted from Trekkie1978:

Horizons was 100x better than mission space.

Well at least we have common ground somewhere. I'd personally rate Horizons as closer to 1000x better, but that is just a matter of opinion. I've only ridden Mission Space once, and that was plenty. I've never felt a desire to ride it again. But I can't count how many times I rode Horizons. My sister and I used to ride it at the end of the night, and then beg the attendants as the ride closed for one last ride. They would let us back in one last time if there were still people loading. We wouldn't "choose" the return part and let the system just surprise us on the last ride.

EPCOT was always my favorite park. I love MK, but every time I was walking out of EPCOT, I felt inspired. Just the text in the doorway of Horizons proclaiming "If we can dream it, we can do it.". But that was a long time ago. Back even when Innoventions was something fun and interesting.

I'm not going to judge the current reconstruction until I can get back there. But I don't think they will ever get back the spirit they lost over the last few decades. I'm not saying it won't be good, but it won't have that special something they used to have.

Epcot of the 80’s and early 90’s will never ever return.

Look at future world east. Universe of Energy, Horizons, and World of Motion. For the most part, I would say they were more on the educational standpoint.

Today? Guardians, mission space and test track. 3 thrill rides.

At least when test track had first opened, it still had an educational aspect to it. If you ask me, the whole inside is boring now. The part where you get through the heat, cold and painting shop now is just “analyzing”. Makes absolutely no sense. Then the part when you test braking vs ABS brakes makes no sense either now.

I say bring back the original Imagination pavilion and original journey into your imagination ride. Land pavilion is fine. But I did like the Lion King show better than the new one there.

Living seas….not sure what they can possibly do.

Spaceship earth needs to be cleaned up a bit, but otherwise it’s still a great ride.

It truly amazes me how with all the nutritional science available now, that they continue to dig themselves an early grave. It's their choice. When you see them with a big gulp and a turkey leg, what more can you say?

There is a lot that can be said on this topic. EPCOT obviously was nothing like Walt imagined, but his vision couldn't be built without him. Marty and the team did an incredible job of doing what they could when it opened. I think Frozen was the first IP change, which only drove us to where we are now. It's a shame that it is turning into a MKII, but it is what is. I love The Land, and hopefully that sticks around because that's basically all there is left.

COVID delayed Spaceship Earth's rehaul, so hopefully it will stick around for a bit. I love it, such a great historical journey.

I wish I could have gone to Epcot in its early days. I always hear people taking about how great it was.

First time I was ever there was early nineties, and it's always been my least favorite park by a mile. In fact, I'm hesitant to even call it a theme park.

I'll never forget the first time I walked into innoventions with my buddy and all we saw was a huge room full of Sega Genesis consoles with different games. We just looked at each other and my buddy says, "um, we play Sega at home every day." To this day, I view that as a great summary of Epcot.

They do have a few theme park level attractions and those are great!

It's interesting to see the discussion of obese people at Disney World, because the one time I went there, over 20 years ago, I found it shocking to see so many fat people in one place. I can only imagine what it's like a generation later. I felt most bad for the fat children with 2 large parents, who never had a chance.

There are three types of people you see at WDW, and at the resorts from my observations.

Obese or those that are unhealthy....high BP, overweight, diet is for crap, etc. and you are right. Usually the kids are well on their way as well. It's interesting to see how large kids can be at an early age.

Then there are the super parents - they are easy to spot. Mom is usually in workout gear/tight pants pushing a double stroller like she's on the treadmill, they eat very well - and pace the park at almost a jog. You can see Dad is wearing his high end hiking gear.

Then all those in between to some degree.

And there is the South American group - when we usually go they are on spring break from school, so they make up about 35% of the park. They are interesting to watch as well. Their family social interaction is much different that of Americans. They actually talk to each other in line instead of looking at their phones. We learned a bit of Portuguese and Spanish so we could interact with them a few years ago. Was pretty cool.

If you hit EPCOT at the right age and the right years (early 80s) you had something that looked like PONG at home and the experiences at EPCOT felt like you had jumped into a sci-fi movie. Being eight years old and going on Horizons you basically walked out of there perfectly attuned to a future full of wonderful and optimistic advances in technology. Unfortunately we didn't get the Horizons future

Yeah, I can imagine that. It probably was pretty awesome back then.

I was like 20ish years old when I went in the early 90s, and I guess it just didn't connect with me. I think I just got there too late!

My last three trips, I've told my wife, "ok, this time we're going to spend some time really exploring the world showcase and figure out what we're missing and why everyone loves it." And, we've really tried to "get it". I just have no idea what to do when I get there.

So we always end up walking through, maybe hitting the two boat rides and then leaving. I have little desire to spend much time in the little trinket shops, or sit in a restaurant or bar.
