The loose wire gets tied to the stepper frame. The tab broke off from the lower, outer bolt on the solenoid bracket:

You'll probably find the rest of the ring terminal under the bolt head.

For future reference, if you look closely at the bracket bolts in your photo, the one on the left uses a locking star washer, the other uses what looks like a normal washer.

The normal looking one is likely a ring terminal with teeth inside the ring rather than outside the ring.

Also, it looks like your solenoid bracket has cracked in two...
