I'm working on a Gottlieb Gold Strike, and have a wire hanging from the ball count unit.

It was clipped to one of the hitch pin clips that secures the ball count unit, but that didn't look like the correct place for it.

I don't see any wires missing from any of the brass rivets, or any other obvious signs of where it may have come from. Any ideas?

Quoted from Darcy:

Looks like the tab off of a coil. How far will it reach? For the $17.00 question do you have a schematic?

All the coil tabs are intact.

Yes, I have a schematic. I'm not sure on the wire colors, though.

It doesn't reach too far--maybe about 4" or so.

It doesn't look like anything broke off.

Quoted from Darcy:

OK in your last photo is that a broken tab on the right side of the inside switch stack? (The nuts then to the left just after the two spacers.)

I considered that may have been a possibility, but each switch leaf seems to have a tab on it.

I got lucky probing with a multimeter and found that the wire toned out to one of the jones plug pins in the backbox. That in turn toned out to one of the transformer lugs. And that toned out to the right most fuse for the lamp circuit.

So, it seems like the wire is somehow part of the lamp circuit. I checked for any signs of broken tabs on the lamp sockets, but didn't spot any.

The wire tones out to the wire braid for the lamp sockets.

Quoted from MarkG:

The loose wire gets tied to the stepper frame. The tab broke off from the lower, outer bolt on the solenoid bracket:

You'll probably find the rest of the ring terminal under the bolt head.

Yep, that was it. Thanks!

I have solder tabs on-hand, so I'll fix that tomorrow.

Quoted from MarkG:

Also, it looks like your solenoid bracket has cracked in two...

Yeah, it's on the list for my next parts order.
