Quoted from thetylander:I can’t believe I read this whole thread and felt compelled to post. I kind of just wanted to see what I missed out on. Sounds like a disappointment overall with a few highlights.
I debated going, driving four hours and spending at least $400 just for me to attend, but I hit a deer and wrecked my car that week. So I decided I’ll take the whole family to District 82 in DePere some weekend instead. Same distance away, amazing place, much cheaper, and we can watch the Packers lose at one of the finer Green Bay bars the next day.
The majority of this thread is people complaining about how bad the expo was… surprisingly, that might have been in the title of the thread!!!
… and this was followed by an equal amount of people whining about the people who were saying how bad the expo was!!!
Wow. Didn’t see that coming! I must be new to this World Wide Web thingy!
When it comes to expos and conventions, it’s not about celebrating fandom, it’s about using fandom to make money, and lots of it. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, but you still have to put on a good show for the fans who attend.
Many people were disappointed.
WELCOME TO CHICAGO!
In other words, a good Con or Expo is not hard to do unless you’re too busy maximizing your profits while minimizing expenses.
WELCOME TO CHICAGO!
Some people nowadays are DEEPLY OFFENDED by different opinions. They scream “Reeeeee!!!” and start typing “How dare you insult this!!!” , “I bet you can’t do a better job!”, “You don’t know how hard it is to do an expo!”, “ “You have no right to attack the people who put it all together you’ll hurt their feelings because they worked really hard!”
…and so on.
Believe me, nobody who put the expo together will have hurt feelings. They count the profits, smile, and prepare to do the same thing next year because people will come back next year regardless of how bad it was. After all, it’s the big Chicago Pinball Expo(
TM).
I like to read others opinions, both good and bad. Some people had fun, others didn’t. It’s nice to see these high and low points brought up and discussed intelligently. You get to hear both sides.
What’s sad is how many easily offended people are into pinball. I’m honestly surprised that they haven’t (yet) attempted to have the more racy and sexy pinball machines cancelled because they’re offensive. Considering that most machines are offensive in some way, why are they even in this hobby???
