I'd like to have the ability to disable the background music on my WCS while leaving the sound effects intact.

The ideal solution is probably a circuit in-between the bus and sound board that intercepts and blocks commands that trigger music, but I'm wondering if there's a simpler solution. Maybe something like a switch on a ROM's CE line to disable it after the game boots?

Anybody know which EPROM(s) typically hold the music data on WPC DCS games? Any failure conditions that typically result in no music but working SFX?

    Quoted from xTheBlackKnightx:

The EPROMs that control music and sound are integrated, and interdependent, not independent on the DCS sound board. Removal will result in sound boot failure.
Suggested solution is overcomplicated and has reliance on unecessary electronic components. The correct manner is reprogram the sound calls. However, unless you are familiar with Williams programming this cannot be done easily.
Your alternative option is to purchase a PinSound board which can do what you are requesting to change or eliminate sound calls on WCS94.

I should have mentioned I'm not looking to permanently disable them - ideally I want to be able to enable or disable the music whenever I want, at the flip of a switch. Even flipping a switch after powering up to allow the sound board to boot would be acceptable. PinSound is an interesting product but is prohibitively expensive...

Thanks for the note about interdependence... I've been looking for technical info on how the data is structured but haven't found much yet.
