Im having a problem with the magnet not working in Dirty Harry - was hoping somebody could help.
I believe its the same assembly as the one in TZ.

So...I've checked obvious things like fuses and broken wires. The opto seems to work fine, it just doesn't activate the magnet. However, in the coil test, the magnet activates so that rules out alot right there. I have also switched out the fliptronic board with one that is trustworthy and still same issue.

Any ideas?

pinmike - in the test mode for the magnet, the opto works ok but it doesn't activate the magnet. coin door has been closed in my testing.

should I start then with the driver board? If the transistor wasn't good on the Db, wouldn't the magnent then not work during the coil test (mine does)?

Quoted from pinmike:

I know you said that the optos are ok in magnet test but did you test them in "switch test"?

yeah, the optos definately work in the switch test and in game.

Its got me baffled man...switches work and magnet works, but for some reason they are not working together. I did make sure the magnet was not disabled too.

Yup - tried the factory reset once before.

So to clarify, the magnet is not working in the magnet test mode. I roll a ball up, the opto registers, but no magnet. BUT...in the solenoid test the magnet does work.

There must be something that activates the magnet during the game that is different that what is activating it during the solenoid test...I just can't figure that part out

thanks pinmike (and everyone else chiming in) - I'll try it tonight.

Quoted from Ballsofsteel:

did you test the right flipper ball return lane rollover switch (light magna save)??

yeah all switches working ok.
voltage to the magnet is ok too.

maybe the coil itself is junk and its just really weak...at this point I just don't know.

I'll do some more tooling around with it this weekend and update the thread.
Thanks again for all the suggestions so far.
