    Quoted from Gort:

So, how does licensing work? Are there different kinds of licence? Can you use every song, picture, image of the band, etcetera? I'm only hearing one song from each of those clips. Can you just pay a smaller fee to use a song in a commercial one time? Its a interesting subject.

It depends on what you're doing, if Stern were to make a Zeppelin pin, they'd have to negotiate a deal with the band and you could conceivably pay a different price depending on

    1. band logo
    2. band artwork (album covers, etc.)
    3. Individual songs (pay more for 8 than for 4, etc.)
    4. Video clips of the band (for an LCD, if there is one)
    5. custom callouts from individual band members
    6. promotional work done by the band (ads on their website, etc.)

So it just depends on what the deal is and what the band is willing to do. You might get a band who's really eager to make a machine, so basically bundle everything together for a nominal price, or you may get a band who wants top dollar for every little aspect of their license that gets used.
