Data East, 1991Dumb question... I’m having an issue with Checkpoint blowing the F2 fuse on startup. Apparently the issue is related to the pop bumpers... I tested a pop bumper diode in circuit and it read bad, but when I pulled it out of circuit it read good. I checked the coils and they were all good, but the one with the bad diode was only reading 3 ohms instead of 4 ohms. Any ideas what would cause this?
Electrons take the path of least resistance. In the case of your solenoid the electrons pass through the wire rather than the semi-conductor. When you take the diode out of circuit there is no alternate path for the electrons.
If you suspect a problem with a diode, just replace it. It's not unheard of for components to fail under load. Once you have a new diode installed, then see what happens.

F2 on which board?
3 or 4 ohms is the resistance of the coil winding you are measuring.
The diode can't be tested on the coil.
Coil resistance can vary.
