Apologies for being uneducated in this.

In the photo:
The diode on the coil is a 1N4004
The diode below it is also a 1N4004

Can the small one be used to replace the larger one?
It wouldn't be on this exact coil but another similar
It is a Gottlieb target bank reset coil on Joker Poker

Also - if this diode fails, what is the impact on the game?
Would I know that it had failed?
Would it damage the PCB if it failed?

Thank you all.
Based on that, I'll replace the old diode on the coil with the new smaller one "just in case"
