Hello fellow pinsiders.
Advice needed, I have a diner that I bought and the playfield is in pretty rough shape. I do have a overlay from classic arcades. I've done a little research here and seeing a lot of mixed views as far as application. I think with the type of overlay I have it can't be layed down wet because it's a sticker right? Also, after sanding and cleaning do I apply anything to the wood? My gut tells me no, I would think any chemical on there would cause adhesive problems. I know there are some pinsiders that aren't fans of the overlays, but any other type of restoration isn't really an option. Advice needed

How bad is the PF? I honestly wouldn’t do an overlay unless you really had to. CPR will do a playfield and unless yours is unplayable, I have yet to see an overlay that looks good.

There’s no shame in a beaten up game that still plays right.

I've done a few, some came out good, others not so. Adding soapy water helps make any minor adjustments you might have to make.
A lot of people say you should put a clear coat over it, but I would be concerned putting a chemical that might damage it if not applied correctly.
I prefer get a PF protector.
Also after applying the overlay, let it sit for a couple days to dry out, and keep checking that it isn't lifting or have any bubbles.
Yes a lot don't like overlays, but it is a cheaper option that $600-850 PF.
Doesn't make a lot of since to put that kind of money in to a game that's not worth it.
