I recently acquired a Diner. The lock shot only seems to stick about half the time - the rest of the time the ball goes on through and into the bumpers. Is this a common issue on Diner? Any suggested remedies?

#438 7 years ago

Hmm, I was going from memory and it's been a few days since I saw this; it's possible that it's going into the EAT lanes rather than straight into the bumpers. In any case, the shot isn't staying in the lock about half the time. I will have to get in there and see what it looks like - thanks for the photo.

Quoted from hawkmoon:

shiffdog,do you get the award from the Jukebox?Every once in a hundred,my ball won't stick in the kick out,but i get the award from the Jukebox, just as the ball goes through the lane!

My plunger isn't very strong and often doesn't reach the kick-out. (I intend to put in a stronger spring at some point.) In those cases I do still get the jukebox skillshot award when the ball goes down one of the EAT lanes. Is it supposed to work that way?

Quoted from Plumonium:

May be your ball deflector is missing it's blue pad

That was it - there was no blue pad. The lock shot is OK now.

Next issue: the Dine Time clock doesn't read the right value - any tips for dealing with that problem? (It also makes a squealing noise when it moves.)

Anyone try the swap yet with the new CPR playfield? (Or are we all waiting for them to cure?) This would be my first attempt at a swap if I decide to do it myself (and I may not have a choice based on the price I was quoted by a local tech).

Any thoughts on whether this title is reasonably doable for a first-time swapper?

The metal flap in the shooter lane on my Diner is pretty badly corroded. I imagine this is a common problem - is there a way to improve the look of it (as I start on my CPR swap)? Or is there a source for a replacement? I see that Pinbits lists that part on their site but no longer has them in stock.

or just make a new flap out of metal stock from pinrestore.

Thanks - I’ve ordered a sheet of spring steel from Pinrestore and will cut out a new flap.

I’m swapping over the star posts along the left side of the playfield, and finding that the new CPR playfield has a slightly different configuration of holes (and one fewer hole) than my original. Based on the diagram in the manual it looks like the new playfield is correct and a previous owner may have added an extra post to the original PF for some reason. How does this compare to others’ machines?

Quoted from tstone:

That's different than mine.
Mine has a star post behind the iced tea target, a star post behind the french fries target, and a regular (non star) post behind the root beer. 3 total. Then 3 more for the lower rubber. Yours has an extra star post.
On mine, the screw that sticks up above the plastic is connects to the lower rubber, where yours is connected to the upper rubber.
To make your look more like mine, you'd have to:
Move the upper rubber to end at the non-star post.
Move the lower rubber to end at the star post that goes through the plastic.
Remove the star post you have underneath the yellow square on the plastic.

Thanks! That makes sense - your description is exactly how the holes are cut on the new CPR playfield. I wonder why someone added that extra post to the original PF.

Working on repro plastic set for Diner pinball. Who knows where used this two parts?
[quoted image]

Both are in the upper left corner.

I have the Sonic MRS switch for my CFTBL - it’s a literal game changer. Looking forward to putting one on my brand new Diner coffee cup (which I’m installing on my new playfield)!

I'm working on my PF swap. After moving the harnesses onto the new PF I found this yellow wire dangling from the switch for the skill shot saucer. I looked at the switch matrix in the manual and since this switch and the switch for the ball lock saucer are in the same column, I'm thinking this bit of wire is supposed to bridge between the two switches. Is that correct?

#1123 4 years ago

I think that was actually this bit of yellow wire - it was hanging by a thread from the lug so I just went ahead and removed it. (I stuck it through the hole in the lug just for the photo - I will solder it back on once I figure out where the other end is supposed to go.) I'm thinking the other end goes to the same lug on the ball-lock switch since both switches are in the "green-violet" column on the switch matrix. (See the green-violet wires attached to the ball-lock switch to the left of my hand in the photo.) But I am a novice at reading switch diagrams so I wanted to see if anyone could confirm that I'm correct before I get out the soldering iron.

Quoted from pinballinreno:

When i see this on a game, the length of the wire limits where it came from.
Install the switch and see what likely contacts are near by with broken nibs on them.
It should be readily apparent.

Thanks - the length of the wire is another reason why I was thinking it must go to the ball-lock switch. I guess I'll go with that and see what happens.

1st customer cup installed and it looks great. Nice job Joe (shiffdog) Your resto is coming out Nice !!![quoted image]

Thanks - worth the money in my opinion. Really a no-brainer for me given that I'm installing a new PF and new plastics. The old cup looked ridiculous with the new saucer plastic!

I am stumped, any ideas?

Are you using a MRS switch on the cup?
