Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem with the digital display on my Bally Night Rider machine. I just got this machine up and running after many years in storage. The back cabinet had been disconnected and separated from the lower cabinet. I cleaned all the wiring harness connections that had been disconnected and re-connected them. Everything seems to be working fine except the thousands digit on all four player screens does not light up. Seems as if it might be related to a power issue for that particular digit.
Can anyone lead me in the right direction to troubleshoot and repair this issue?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks, Tom

The issue you describe is likely in this order:

MOST COMMON CAUSE
a connection issue between the MPU and the displays (cold solder joint)
an open resistor
a bad IC/socket on the MPU.
LEAST COMMON CAUSE

Thanks for your replies. I found a dirty connection on the MPU which corrected the issue of the missing digit on two of the displays. It turns out the displays for player 3 and player 4 are missing more then one digit. I cleaned the connections at the displays but it didn't help. I removed the displays and looked at the circuitry but couldn't see any issues. I'm thinking it's a problem with the display circuit boards. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

You should do as doctor_pinball says and swap out one of the good displays with one of the displays you think are bad, and see if the problem follows. This will give you a better idea as to if it's the display, or connector problems, or one of the issues snyper2099 has suggested may be the cause.
