All survivors on the ship died within the next year. That was 75 years ago that we had that technology. If I had to guess, I would think that other intelligent life forms could have come up with this technology and perfected it thereby making space travel possible. We are just one planet in a galaxy that contains roughly 15-20 billion planets and that is just in our galaxy which is only one of billions of galaxies out there.
