    Quoted from toddsolus:

I don't think this is true...since single neurons(cells) can stretch the length of the spine.

    Quoted from phil-lee:

Smithfield Meats (formerly from NC and purchased by China)

That will effectively end my purchases of their bacon.

I absolutely go out of my way to buy American products. Almost in every instance that position is a two edged sword.

    #241 3 years ago
    Quoted from zombywoof:

Smithfield was founded in Smithfield, Virginia,

That is why I bought it. The package still says it's produced in Smithfield, Virginia and had no idea.

    #243 3 years ago

I just try to spend local as much as possible but it's ludicrous to think you won't have to buy foreign products, simply can't be done.

    #247 3 years ago
    Quoted from Oaken:

Is bacon produced at an American factory from American hogs fed American feedstock foreign if it is owned by a foreign company though?

(If yes, then I have some bad news about your beef)

I said as much in my post, I'm aware you can't avoid buying outside. I just try to keep as much of my money here when feasible. I'm fortunate enough to still be close to large swaths of farmland so I could buy meat easily enough and have in the past. Takes a lot of freezer space though for slaughtered pork and beef, if you don't split with someone. I buy local vegetables, eggs, milk etc. when it's available.

    #248 3 years ago

American made does not mean produced and assembled in the USA 99% of the time, it's assembled here but parts etc., produced by foreign companies. I have no problem with foreign companies or peoples I just like the idea of keeping it close to home when feasible.
