Well I decided that I needed to rebuild the flippers on my IJ. I got the parts a couple months ago at York and have been putting it off. Seemed like a big undertaking. Took about 2 and half hours to do both. I could not figure out why the left flipper was not working after, but realized I put the coil sleeve in the wrong way after 20 mins of troubleshooting.
The good is that both flippers work better and can make both ramps without issue now. Only two issues remain. The right flipper is slowly floating up out of alignment. After you play a few games the right bat is at a different angle than it should be. I tried to tighten everything again but can't get it 100%. Its not bad but frustrating. The second issue is the airballs from the center drop targets have now gotten out of control. The ball comes flying off it almost every game. Any ideas?

If the flipper is coming out of adjustment then you do not have the set screws tightened down enough or you need new flipper bats. I had a flipper bat on my shadow that would not stay in place no matter how tight I got it. Put new flipper bat in and good to go now.

One of two issues:
(1) It's still just not tight enough.
(2) The original flipper bat was used, and the shaft is worn.

My experience with old flipper bats is they are very hard to adjust, because they can have worn spots on the shafts that will cause them to shift. Most pronounced during installation, but I can see how it might happen over time as well.

A professional IJ drop target tweaker will probably have a better answer for this, but my guess is this is the new normal; more powerful flippers will tend to result in more airballs.

Yeah. You have to tighten the crank round flipper bat shaft way more than you think could possibly be right. You really need to crush it.

Thank you all for the reply. I DID NOT change the bats. Probably should have.

OK I will try this. I was afraid that I would over do it, but it sounds like that is not going to happen.

I would get airballs in the past but now they are hitting the glass multiple times a game. Posted in the IJ owners thread.

High quality 10-32 bolt/nut used has a torque rating of between 60 and 80 in/lb. Don't know if anyone has recommended a torque spec in the pinball world, or if anyone would even conside using a torque wrench, but I use one and 60 in/lb seems to work great. Not a lot of room for a torque wrench though.
