Could it be that it booted Linux via a Windows bootloader? Can't tell why anybody would want to do that, but I remember a former major mobile phone manufacturer prototype phone booting to Linux and Android, and then rebooting to Windows Phone, because the bootloader code was not supported in WP yet.
