The reason I was wondering this is because in Last Action Hero (maybe also Jurassic Park) there is a display that promotes PAPA 4 in the attract mode. Apparently TOMMY had this promotion going on where the cast of the Broadway musical attended PAPA and played the game in a tournament. What exactly did they do besides these?

All of the pinball manufacturers were sponsors of PAPA and IFPA tournaments in the early 90s.

I don't know the details of the arrangement with the Tommy cast, but it seems like most of that happened locally in NYC with Steve Epstein.

I do know that TFTC has tournament setting modes for IFPA style and PAPA style rules. I would be interested to know if these tournament settings exist for other DE pins.

Yes, for example:
R&B: Adjustment 45 Tournament Style can be set to None, Home, PAPA, EXPO, or IFPA
LAH: Adjustment 51 Tournament Style can also be set to None, Home, PAPA, EXPO, or IFPA

I know with R&B you can also use an IFPA or PAPA logo in your custom attract mode message. Edit: Also in LAH.

They exist in SEGA games too (carried over from DE), at least Lost World. IFPA, PAPA, EXPO and Home tournament modes. I used to know the difference; I think it's in the manual but I don't have that handy...

I also like the old feature of having 6 players or automatically adding players 1-3 and 2-4 in 4-player games.
