Can someone please share the height (clearance) of Dialed In with the head down? I'm trying to determine if it'll fit in my SUV.

Thank you in advance!

Quoted from DeeGor:

CPU usage is still 100% on a single core after removing the bluetooth adapter. Same after shutting down the bluetooth service.

Option 1: It's a bug. It LOOKS like a bug. I hope they can easily fix it.
Option 2: It's not a bug and caused by feature-creep -- adding new and interesting features. They can hopefully improve things.
Option 3: See 2, but they can't reasonably make it faster.

If 3, I hope JJP say so, and then recommend staying on 1.57 (or whatever) or they recommend a proper cpu/fan upgrade.
THEN.... I hope pinside doesn't erupt into a bunch of whining idiots. JJP will not OWE you a new CPU.
JJP took so much heat for POTC proto previews, they're never sharing or seeking early feedback again.
This is the sort of thing/moment that could kill long-term pinball software support and updates.

#8797 4 years ago
Quoted from PinBuck:

What worries me about a future fix is that they already made the decision to upgrade the hardwareratger than optimizing the code to run across multiple cores.

They chose the easier route by upgrading the hardware. It really depends on the number of celeron machines out there in the wild.

Or perhaps they're using PC components that aren't readily available in the marketplace for years on end.
Maybe they're just buying better hardware, with better availability, for the same price?

Quoted from KHL:

I just picked up a HUO LE from a local collector pal. My initial impression of this game from playing it on location was that it was pretty rad but I wasn't necessarily hyped on the package as a whole. After having it in my home for two days I can safely say that this is one of (if not the penultimate) Pat Lawlor achievement as the thing hit's it out of the park on nearly every level: design, rules, complexity, shot geometry and it really has a grip of TRUE PINBALL MAGIC going on as well! Looking forward to enjoying this game and learning more about it because I have yet to break 1 million on it out of maybe 20 plays.

I agree completely, almost. As much as I've really, really tried to appreciate the theme....nope. It's a mess. The modes idea of natural disasters is great... But SOMEONE working with Pat should have given him feedback (with some emphasis) that the rest was plain goofy and didn't mesh well.

Loving the game though...

Quoted from SilverWings:

I believe it is. Happens rarely though.

I think it happens a lot more often if you've got a playfield protector installed.

Quoted from Doctor6:

Weird question: what is a good JJP game to put along side Dialed In to compliment it well? I'm leaving towards Hobbit because I'm scared of all the playfield issues Pirates and Wonka are getting. Plus, it seems radically different than DI. Woz seems super packed like DI, but haven't put enough time in with it to know if it shoots nearly as well. Your thoughts?

I don't like any of the JJP themes. But I'd say get POTC if you can. It's brilliant.

With the latest software update, when should I expect the drone motors to turn on? I don’t think I’ve seen them since updating. All 3 motors (still!) work in test mode.

#8986 4 years ago
Quoted from ralphs007:

They'll last longer now that they don't turn on.

At the current rate, they'll "last" forever. Are they disabled entirely during gameplay with the latest firmware update?

Quoted from ThePinballCo-op:

ADJUSTMENTS:
-- Make it so you can collect sim cards from ball to ball. That's the way it should be imo, but the factory settings are set so that you can only collect a sim card on the same ball in which you light it. Makes it tough.

I've done the same, this should really be the default setting (on 98% of the games out there).

Quoted from VillaThrills:

Just picked up a Dialed In LE from a trade. None of the drones spin. I assume they should during the coil test? Should I troubleshoot or just assume it is that all the motors are dead and not worry about it? Lights do light.

Also, don't worry about it at this point. In the latest code, they are generally disabled for the most part. They rarely turn-on now.

Quoted from Pinphila:

Did anyone pay to print the manual? JJP is out and I would love to have a printed copy. I thought about staples?

If someone familiar with the best process for this could print several copies, I'll bet a bunch of us would chip-in to buy one. I'd like to buy a printed Hobbit manual too! Rumor has it these incredible manuals are a dying breed at JJP.

Quoted from holminone:

I’ve decided. Pinheads who don’t like DI are stupid and can’t be trusted. Yes. It’s that big of a flaw in judgement. Tired of the hate narrative that still persists in a machine that is arguably the GOAT.
Partially kidding of course.

But I HATE emojis! Ugh. I'm surprised elephants didn't fit into DI's tight theme.
Game shoots very well, it's a great game. But it should have shipped with the Matrix theme.

Quoted from Doctor6:

The Matrix, but you can't have the rights to any of the actors except the guy that played Tank. All you get would be soundtrack and hand drawn art that could fit any cyberpunk comic, but still has the matrix on the back glass.
Fuck that.
This is why licensed themes aren't always the end all be all. Obviously I'm still a little salty about JP's use of license. No license means you can do whatever you want.

I'm fine with JJP licensed games and how they leveraged the theme. Could've been better in some cases, but it's good enough for me. DI is just a ridiculous mess. Unfortunately.

#10406 3 years ago
Quoted from BC_Gambit:

I don't think DI is the GOAT, but when I hear comments from folks like the SDTM cast say things along the lines "theme is the only thing that matters, and DI's theme sucks" I have to wonder how many newbies think like that. I don't buy a game because I like the movie or whatever; it can get me interested in a game, but I'm not getting out my wallet based on that.
If I like Star Wars, I can watch the movies, play video games, dress up and nerd out with fans, whatever. If you bring me a SW pinball, it better be a good pinball game, as I am a pinball fan. Not some Rando who stumbled into a retail outlet with 6K to drop on a the first game he or she sees.
It could be the "Rando's" are way more of the market than informed pinball fans; if so I am glad we are getting games that are as good as they have been lately. Not every game has been "the best game ever" but when I look at what has been released over the last several years we are pretty lucky!
Even DI being released is a minor miracle.

Personally, the reason I seem so angry about DI's theme is it's SUPER goofy and random. It's a great game. It deserved better.

#10409 3 years ago
Quoted from DarthFett72:

Ok can anyone explain to me how the selfies work on DI? I know it takes your pic once you enter your name/initials, but after having it for just a week or so, it seems to use the same pic for player one no matter what name. Is this normal? Or am I missing a setting or something that controls this? I’m running code 1.73 btw

I'd look at the camera test. A light in the background or other problems could cause this. But you may have it disabled in settings.

Quoted from javagrind888:

I've been sitting on my drone replacements for a year, about to tackle it today. Anything I should be aware of before going in?
It's still odd that two of them work a single time after a power reboot and then never work again.

Not sure I'd spend the time since the code rarely (if ever) spins them. I'd hold onto them and play some games with that time instead.

Ok tapping right at the start of the phone call worked

Thanks for this. I was confused as well. Am not aware of another game trigger/cancel involving multiple presses of both flippers.

Quoted from Tranquilize:

Yep. Only tragic flaw in the game is that you can't hit the lowest b.o.b. target. 80% of my drains are the left outlane.

The theme is a tragedy. It's a hodge-podge of good and horrible ideas that don't fit well together at all. I avoid BOB modes because they are irritating af. While I do like the dozen or so 'armageddon phone-scoop modes', the game deserved better. For the life of me, I don't know why people try and defend it.

Quoted from nicoy3k:

The game is a masterpiece. If you can’t see it, I can’t help you. Speaking of tragic themes, looks like you have a Shadow?

HHHAHHHAHAHHH .... masterpiece? Ummmmm, No.
Dialed In is a great game, but it could be so much better if the theme wasn't so goofy. As for Shadow, I agree, and would put it in the same category.

#11569 3 years ago
Quoted from Green-Machine:

Judging by his line-up he is a little dark.

Hey guys, there is no reason to attack me personally because I hold an opinion that most other people share as well. Your resale value will be JUST FINE. I still have the game and was cursing at it just last night. It's fun to shoot.
If they had gone with their gut and named it Alien Armageddon (or something like that?) and skipped the stupid phone/mom-jeans stuff, it could've been even better.

#11571 3 years ago
Quoted from Green-Machine:

I just meant you like dark themes. “Dialed in”
Seems a little on the Light side for your taste in games. No one is attacking you personally. Sorry if what I said came off the wrong way

Good point, and you're probably right. I do prefer more serious, adult themes. I like humor too - Monster Bash, MMadness, Lebowski, etc.
But I'm also an admitted JJP fanboy so while DI and Wonka aren't my favorite themes, I enjoy both games and I'm looking forward to Toy Story...

Quoted from finnflash:

Wanting to find out if there is a settings area for the theater video screen?
I played a DI on location today and the brightness of the theater looked much better then mine at home. Mine almost looks kind of yellow when the subway doors come up on the screen.

Are you sure all of the color channels are present (red, green, blue)? Perhaps the panel connector is loose.

Quoted from Mr-Worf:

I would like to see another update soon, preferably with changed callouts and music. Steve Richie is now there and can speak the callouts

Super mega pass! No thanks!

Quoted from Mr-Worf:

DI is a great pin but with bad music and voice output without emotions.

Agreed!

Quoted from Mr-Worf:

have often considered to let the pin go and get me another Stern keeper Pin.

Another? I've been waiting 5 years for something special... still waiting...

Unfortunately I'm having zero luck with the Bluetooth functionality.

Well, it does look like you've got the right bluetooth dongle and you are seeing connections. But from my experience, the bluetooth stack on linux is a random affair and the device support is very low. I was able to connect my Sony WH-1000mx2 headphones but trying to broadcast to my Denon receiver failed.

Quoted from sirlonzelot:

Can’t update, tried several times and different usb Sticks , but it always ended this. Any idea ?[quoted image]

I ran into this as well.

Initially it would mount the 32gb USB flash drive but then eventually boot off the ssd. I reformatted my flash drive, switched from unetbootin to rufus, and didn't make progress. Swapped 32gb flash drives (different manufacturer), and ran into the same corrupt-partition error using rufus. So I re-extracted using unetbootin and the update worked. I was planning to test a 3rd 16gb usb flash drive but thankfully didn't need it.

Quoted from altan:

It’s truly absurd but I hear people complain about the wrench woman, the the main guy on the cab / playfield wearing “mom jeans”. Plus they don’t like the power co. Guy art that movies back and forth.
Change those and I think the art obsessed wound love the game.

I agree with the art critique, but it's more than that. The theme is goofy and weak. Maybe if they increased the intensity and feel of damage or armageddon or survival or something! But instead we have trains, emojis, spiders, drones, a cell phone, lottery tickets, selfies, BoB, Betty Wrench, Weather, Aliens.... It's soooo random. Maybe the character animation assets came from a canceled video game?

I've said it before and I'll say it again - BOTH the playfield and ruleset deserved better.

And I do own the game. Due to the theme, it's probably the best value game in all of pinball.

#12298 2 years ago
Quoted from TOLLS:

Unfortunately there are a lot of people who can’t get the theatre magnet working properly or even know how it is meant to work. I would sell mine if it wasn’t working properly as it is pivotal to the flow of the game and ruleset. I persisted and got it working perfectly. Yes, it was a challenge. When this game is set up well, the theme is not even the slightest thought in your mind.

Initially my game had a playfield protector installed and it DEFINITELY messed with the magnet behavior. Once the protector was removed, the game played great.

Quoted from AvidPinPlayer:

New at this game so I'm trying to figure things out. Can anyone tell me what it takes to get the drones activated. I have played a few games by now and I have yet to see the drones active. I check in test and they work fine so I conclude that they may be at a stage that I have not reached yet. Is this correct?
Thanks in advance.

Current code barely (if ever?) turn on the motors because the motors were unreliable (and I believe JJP grew tired of sending replacements). It's a shame, I wish it was a software option.
