Quoted from MJG1969:

To be filed under the category of "Totally unnecessary but makes me feel like I have done something" I just upgraded the CPU on my DILE to an Intel Core i3-4170 @3.7GHz. I also replaced the 4GB of RAM to 8GB (2x4GB). The installation of these was super easy -- and the total price of everything was less than $22 for everything. That is the benefit of replacing older technology with less older technology.
To be filed under the category of "Unnecessary but is an improvement" I replaced the stock 120mm fan with a Noctua fan -- and it made a very noticeable difference in terms of noise. New fan is efficient and very quiet.
Thanks to this great forum for all the background needed to make these improvements. LOVE my Dialed In!!!!

that's awesome! Any chance you can provide specific part numbers? At that price, I'll do the same as basically preventative maintenance.

Absolutely.

Here is the CPU - Intel Core i3-4170 3.7 GHz LGA 1150 Desktop CPU. I ordered off of ebay. Plenty to be had - just choose a reputable seller. The one I purchased was only $7 with free shipping.

For the RAM and the FAN I ordered off of Amazon.
Here is the RAM - DUOMEIQI PC3 10600 DDR3 1333MHz Ram 8GB(2 X 4GB) PC3-10600U DIMM Memory DDR3-1333 Ram 8GB 1333mhz UDIMM 2RX8 CL9 1.5V 240 Pin Non-ECC Unbuffered for Desktop Computer Memory Module Upgrades

Here is the fan - Noctua NF-S12B redux-1200, High Performance Cooling Fan, 3-Pin, 1200 RPM (120mm, Grey)

One thing to mention, for the CPU -- you will want to purchase a tube of thermal paste -- these are generally pretty inexpensive, just a few dollars. While you might have enough on the bottom of your heatsink/fan that attaches to the CPU, its always a good idea to start clean and apply a fresh coat. I had some from a past project.

Hope this helps.

Thanks tons! I’ve built many PCs in my day, and have plenty of paste, tools, grounding straps, etc. I’m a fan of Noctura (pun intended); their stuff is bulletproof and quiet.

DiabloRush - One thing worth mentioning -- is after you install the new RAM and/or CPU -- the first time you turn the game on, it will give you a notice on the screen stating that it has detected a change in memory/CPU and asks you to press (I think) F2. You don't need to do this, you can just turn the game off at this point and then turn it back on. It should then boot up correctly -- you should then go into the hardware settings on the menu and confirm that the CPU and RAM are showing up correctly.

Want your Jersey Jack Pinball Slingshot to have more power? This mod will do exactly that!!! Here is a video showing it working on default slingshot power in the menu so you can go higher but I did adjust it to be set at default setting. Very easy install just desolder slingshot wires and put module in the circuit. Input is the wires from the game output to the coil. Kit comes with two black boxes to do two slingshot.

DI LE -- my very first pin

Congrats on your first pin! And DILE - what a start! My first ever pin was a nib WOZ by JJP. It was dazzling, still among my favorite looking pins ever. So I was sorta ruined after that, as I started with a new JJP and worked backward through different eras and tried owning over 100 pins now. I’m on my THIRD Dialed In, and I think it’s a spectacular game. Very much a Pat Lawlor special, with great ramps, a tricky SIM card shot with the upper flipper and three LCD screens. Lots of mechs and great code. A great game with an original theme combining the cell phone/tech era with the end of the world. Seems pretty timely! . Enjoy your game and this awesome hobby and community!

Hey, guys!

I've found a few posts where folks replaced the theater screen and noted that inserting the ribbon cable from the screen to the board "sucked." So I need to know how to do it. Is there a trick? Am I missing something obvious? I'm scared I'm going to break the cable. How do you do it? Any tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, new DILE owner here after looking for a while. Happy to join the club! I had a tech question on the phone. One of the surrounding LEDs does not change colors with the rest, come on at the same speed, or turn on at all some times. Does this mean the led board around the phone is bad and needs to be replaced?

Also, my phone turned off while playing last night; turned back on with a restart. I've seen this issue mentioned, but could not find a common fix. It hasn't happened since, but not sure if I should be worried about a deeper problem there.

Thanks for any help!

Means a LED is bad. No idea if it or the whole board is available.

Not until the screen goes out. No biggie, the LCD and board are available. Links have been posted in the thread.

Finally! Owned my DI LE for 3 1/2 years. This weekend made it a goal to get to Armageddon for the first time and I made it. I would rate this probably third shortest ball times of my machines. The magnets keep the ball out of control so often.

I noticed one of the differences between a Dialed In SE and LE is that the Quantum Theatre displays in 2d on the SE rather than 3d on the LE. Is the 3d effect a easy upgrade on the SE?

Don’t believe there is a difference! In the theaters

There isn't. Just the decorations mounted on the sides is different.

Ok thanks, some misinformation in a video I saw then.

It’s hard to believe now a days but, if my memory is correct, Jack (aka Jersey Jack) stated it made no sense to have different gameplay across editions. Just lighting and art.

Might have been at SFGE when he was there.

Harder to believe he said selling a pin without complete code was "fraud" I believe? heady times.
