I just picked up DI LE which I think is fantastic. I don’t build my collection based on who designed it but if I’m honest, it was a hole in my collection not having anything by Lawler. I owned TZ before and love the subway and side camera shot. Still think TZ is the single greatest pin except doesn’t have the fancy lighting effects that I love Woz and DI.

So to me DI is getting the layout from Lawler with the latest modern hardware and code which I love.

MMr seems like a slight upgrade from 20 year old game but missing the latest light show etc.

Absolutely fixable with a Pinduino

I am talking about the color inserts specifically.

Quoted from colonel_caverne:

I recently left the DI club.
Certainly one of the most tough game out there for several reasons.
It is technically difficult, I always had the feeling that the ball was never on the right flipper to hit the following shot, some modes are hard and very challenging to complete in timer, some are easiers but this game has the dumbest most important shot to do as SIM Card shot. Never done it in other way than by chance.
The vuk shot, other important shot to start modes, is also hard to do coz of many rejected ball. Plenty of time I had hit it in the perfect center and ended to get out.
Anyway a nice game, with great flow, innovative, great lcd animations, with some flaws that ruins my experience for this one.
Maybe JJP is not for me (woz didn’t do it for me too)
In other hand, MM, best pinball ever, less deep than DI, but challenging enough to go to wizard mode and more accessible to every player. So FUN, so smooth to shoot, so good to hear the sound package, so great toy, so...

That’s a valid assessment, can not disagree fully about the SIM card, but the phone mode start hole is not that difficult for me, much like the slot machine shot in TZ.

I’d say that too easy of shot is worse than a difficult shot. And difficult pins like TWD are popular because they are so difficult. The mode start on IJ or ST is harder than the phone shot imo.

But it’s up to the owner to decide what’s too hard of a shot.

Not for me.
TWD is the perfection imho in all aspects, between easy and difficult shots, risky/reward shots, rules depth, gameplay and all is playing good. I’m way more at my ease with TWD, IJ or ST than DI.
Smartphone shot is hard coz of this issue and I don’t know why. but it is the first time I had this problem on a vuk shot.
Shoot it better in backhand for me.

Might be up your particular pin. My daughters who maybe played pinball 50 games played in her life, she played DI yesterday and hit the phone shot two times in one game.

I like MM, awesome game but for the price of a new MMR I would rather have (and did buy myself) a Dialed In LE. MM still has its original ruleset which while fun gets repetitive in my opinion after a while. This is the same reason why I sold TZ, most 90's pin rulesets just don't hold my attention for long.
I never thought I would do the 180 that I did on Dialed In. I wasn't impressed by the reveal and it was until nearly a year later that I seriously started considering buying one as so many people started to praise it by then. I've had my Dialed In LE now for about 3 weeks and absoustely love it, what a great game. DI feels like my TZ but with all of the new tech and ruleset offerings (and then some) of a modern game. Very impressed.

That’s how I feel too.

It’s fantastic that you can get two great pins, years ago when MMR remake was announced people were freaking out because the number one pin was being remade. It’s been a great half decade for pinball machines as you have seen with the pins you own. It’s not like you could go wrong either way.

The only thing that bugs me spending $9k on one pin is that I’m seeing or have seen good pins for way less (I bought Tron, IM, Met, TWD, SM, LotR, Tspp) for around half that. I’m nor saying they’re as good but just price is something to consider if you prefer two pins for $10k or one for $9k.

Quoted from Scot0308:

What about an MBLE? I'm in on that title for sure. CGC's quality is amazing. I have AFMLE and I am blown away by the quality. Best game I own, simply stunning. Rules are complex but not as confusing as some of the more recent titles. Some people here mention that DI is more technologically advanced which I enjoy, but i think I prefer 90s style games that have quality shots and are relatively easy to understand over games with super complex rules. I'm super busy and don't have time to read a novel dedicated to the rules of a game. My go to game tens to be whirlwind so that says it all.

I wouldn't call DI super complex rules.

I don't know all the rules but basically hit electric guy will charge the phone. Phone is mode start so hit the phone. After that is the mode which is just various playfield shots.

there are other rules but I wouldn't say DI is that much more complex than TZ for example.

As for quality shots, DI is the definition of that. If you like TZ or TAF then you'd feel at home on DI.

the technology which I speak of is like the LCD displays, the selfie camera, the color changing lights the magnet that changes the way the theatre shot reacts to the ball is just on top of a regular normal pin. Think of DI as a game from the 90's but with better technology.

My phone shot is like butter. I’m not finding my backhand yet but cross table it’ll go in more often than not.
