I decided to cancel my Big Lebowski preorder so I have some extra cash in the pinball budget. Which game would you buy for around $8000? My favorite game is WOZ and my second favorite game is TZ so I am obviously a JJP/Lawlor fan but I haven't played DI and am not a fan of the theme and appearance. MM is widely known as one of the greatest games of all time and is also beautiful and a lot of fun.

I am leaning one way but am looking for input that will confirm or contradict that. Thanks!

Get MM for 3 months. Play it, get bored of it, and buy a DI

#3 7 years ago

I've played both about two weeks ago. I was able to play both for several hours. My pick is Dialed In. It is a blast to play! I will also admit when the game was revealed I didn't like the theme as well. But, once you play it you're hooked! It is not a cell phone theme, it is a city destruction theme. Like sim city. The phone merely is the mode selector.

MM is a great machine!! You know what you're getting. And, MMr is a brand new version of that.

But, I'm telling you, you have to play DI. It is amazing! Seeing pics and videos aren't the same. Anyone who has played it loves it. Those who haven't don't like it because of the theme.

Either way, you will have a great machine and will be happy though.

Definitely play DI before you make your decision. I like MM but DI is and feels 20 years more advanced. I've got a feeling that there is a lot more planned for it.

#5 7 years ago

Di will hold your interest much longer, plus the quality is second to none like woz.

#6 7 years ago

I played all of them for many games, but the DI is my absolute favorite.
Great shoots, great flow and a cool story.

Cheers

Peter

DI for days. MM is old stuff, get with the new!

I was honestly leaning towards MMr but I made this thread because I was honestly torn. Despite my insistence that I would never buy it due to theme, my interactions with JJP and the 3 fantastic games of theirs I currently own, along with the comments here, would lead me to believe I'd be happier with DI. Perhaps I'll get an LE. That blue powder coating is pretty sweet looking!

Besides the powder coating, the main ramp is also lit on the LE's and not the standard version.

Id buy a MMR, play it for a year then sell and get a DI, there are still people waiting on their hobbits, you'll probably have to wait for at least quite a few months to get a DI.

I think this is a good idea for the reason you mention and three reasons beyond that:
1. JJP tends to release cool new LEs of their games later on. I might like that DI more.
2. Buying DI later allows me to get a polished game with all of the kinks worked out (or at least most of the kinks).
3. I might just get both if I like the MMR enough!

Plus, it gives me some time to actually play DI before I decide if I want it.

Thanks everyone! The decision has been made.

WOZ is / was my favorite also! I have a MMRLE - love it - and planning on getting a Dialed too..... can't wait for them to ship.... I think they would look great together.

#13 7 years ago

Me, DI is just TODAY and unlike anything before it cause it's JJP / MMR is great of course - #1 rated game for a reason, but it's nothing 'new'.

When you decide - contact us we'll give you great pricing on an MMR... We are also JJP distributors...

I'm seriously looking at DIE. The gameplay looks incredible. Joe, I'll likely be calling you.

When do or have the DI started shipping?

According to who?
Jjp says second quarter, but look at their track record.

It's a different ballgame now - yes it was painful before... I had all my Hobbit pre-orders fulfilled in July. They started production and barely every stopped for anything - money, parts, etc... I am still thinking 2nd quarter is the target. I ask and that's what I'm still told. Shit happens though, one part can screw up the mix. The difference with DI is that Pat has been working with JJP for years now, designing this game... That's done. They have been working on it internally for quite a while - it wasn't like WOZ and Hobbit when they were announced and they were 'dreams'... This game was announced with 5 flawless prototypes being shows and beat up for days at Expo with zero issues... I've had them at PinballSTAR reveal parties and they performed perfectly. I've been told many parts were ordered in fall ahead of Expo.. Is every part there today - probably not, but I suspect they are going to be ready to roll soon. I hear no tales of worry from where I sit, very unlike WOZ and Hobbit situations where someone always had a concern about something. Those two games always had a black cloud on the horizon - but they got made and both are hits... So with DI being so far ahead of the curve of the other games, I expect no issues. Money is no issue either anymore...

Ill second that just heard second quarter is the target.

Good question, but you are comparing a proven champion to a game that's not currently available. (You can pay for it and not own it. I do not recommend pre-order). I have a Williams MM and it's a great game. MMR is also great and it's available for purchase, new and used, today. DI looks great and I'm excited about playing it at the upcoming Texas Pinball Festival. For my money, DI is a game to purchase in 2018 or after. Let someone else do the bug testing for you. Purchase it after the first games have been made.

Well said Nevus. I think many people are gun shy about preorder after all the fiascos in the past. I own 2 Lawlor pins, TZ and FH. I don't know what it is about his pins but I like them. I suspect I will like Dialed In in terms of game play although I don't like the name. I will play the pin first before buying. That is a must IMO.

MMr may be a great game but theres no way id give 8K for it. Ive never played DI but I eont think id want to pay the outrageous asking price for it either. I just got a GB Premium and ive never had so much fun playing pinball in my life, it is awesome! Id get GB personally.

#23 7 years ago

I have not played GB. I guess I should take a look at that game before my next purchase. I do like Lawlor pins, the design seem to be a lot of fun for me. But I really should have an open mind

Get a Shadow and pocket 5k.

GB can be frustrating because you do get alot of short ball times but once you play it awhile things start to click and its a blast. I also own TWD and GOT which are both great pins, but I swear I think GB beats them both.

I agree about Ghostbusters Premium. I got one 2 months ago and love it. Great game!

The Dialed In videos look very interesting. I'd probably choose that over MMr, but the cost is pretty high for both. Looking forward to playing DI at TPF

#27 7 years ago

Dialed In! Not even close, and I really enjoy the MM in my collection right now.

PL and JJP are going to knock DI! out of the park.

If you are talking to me, I already have a GB Pro and enjoy it very much. I have played the Premium/LE and while they are better than the Pro, they weren't enough better to me to justify the much higher price.

I have considered The Shadow but I haven't ever gotten a chance to play it. It is on my want list as well.

#29 7 years ago

I got 3 games in on Dialed In at the Orlando Free Play show in 11/2016. They had 2 machines and long lines behind both of them. I stood by and watched other people play for a while. I was totally impressed by the game play, layout and how well everything worked together. Certainly one of the very best games ever made. Both machines held up without any problems during the show as far as I could tell. They were in constant use without any down time.
I heard some people bitching about the theme but nobody said anything negative about the game play or layout. $8+K is s steep price tag but this one might actually be worth it as opposed to some other recent releases by various manufacturers.

Dialed In all the way! I don’t get it with MM??? It’s 20+ years old! Good game in its day, but why would you pick an old game over a 21st century modern game packed like DI? No depth to MMr, but tons of depth to DI. It’s like saying I prefer to drive my 20+ year old car versus a 2018 model. MMr is a very simple game and grows old quick. Boring 2 ramp shots over and over, or blast the castle. That’s it!!

#34 5 years ago

Wow this is a tough one! MM is a great classic, on the other hand Dialed Is is a recent hit! I voted Dialed In, but both are very good and I have both!

#35 5 years ago

no comparison, DI by a mile!

#36 5 years ago

DI. MM is boring compared to DI.

#37 5 years ago

Dear Everyone,

This is an old thread. The OP has both games in his collection now.

That is all.

Okay, then I vote, buy both of them.

#39 5 years ago

Own both. DI would be my choice.

#40 5 years ago

Wow, what an interesting revival of my old thread. I have a DI LE and a MMr now and love both. I prefer the MMr and that will probably never leave my collection (it is my wife's favorite game) but the DI LE is unlikely to go anywhere for a long time either.

BTW, JJPOTC is a fantastic game!
