I could write a thesis on Stern and cognitive dissonance from what I've read on this website.

If Stern doesn't want to be in the parts business, they should farm it out to someone who can make it profitable. Every service call/part request like this just takes away from their bottom line in time/resources. I'd buy an AC Delco node board.

FWIW, I found a technician here in MN who I'm hoping can help. Any other help is greatly appreciated.

Quoted from Tuukka:

Yes. Stern is not in a business to sell $200 node boards for about $100 profit, but to sell new games at $9000 for some $4000 profit. As long as there is a backlog on new games, they probably don't care much about old out of warranty games, or customers.

you know that most businesses profit at about a nickel on the retail dollar, right? stern isn't making 4 grand on a game

don't tell them that, they'll just raise prices.

Quoted from TheLaw:

Well how does that affect Stern sales? It doesn't, you've already paid for the machine.

Not at all, which makes me even more nervous. If it was something that affected Stern's sales I'd be more certain that something would be done about it.

Anyway, I'm not mad at Stern and I'm not trying to teach them a lesson. They all seem like good people there and I appreciate their games. I just worry when a company's interest and mine are as misaligned as this without any real market forces to correct it (at least in a time frame that would help me).

I am a little concerned that when I thought of how I would feel if one of my pins was out of commission for a year, I realized it probably wouldn't make that much of difference. I really need to play my games more (just hope I don't burn a node board doing so . . . ).

I can't help but think this would make a great Ben Heck repair video.

Oh its awfull. I've had a node down and it's just a deflating feeling. Un/Like this situation it was a common node board but rhe "same" nodes on diff'rent games couldn't be swapped.
Been fixing boards for years, not hard, then you get screwed by this.
