I love machines that have great flow and awesome ramps and Demolition Man is one of my favorites. I recently got a great deal on one (thank you nerdygrrl) and have spent the weekend tuning it in. With three ramps and no less than five habitrails, getting everything to flow well can be a chore, but this pin is well designed and everything came together beautifully, except for one thing, the skill shot. On most DM’s, the ball launch goes around the right orbit to upper left flipper for a skill shot. But not this one. Every shot from the plunge went up the table, rattled around a bit, and then down into the pops. The ball would occasionally make it to the upper flipper, but the majority would never get even close.

I spent two days trying to determine why and how to get the ball to travel around as it should, and I have found the solution. At least for me, this worked and hopefully will work for others that have the same problem. The fix? Four washers.

I noticed that when the ball came off the plunge, it would roll off the jump and slam into the first star post in the right orbit. This would cause the ball to vibrate back and forth in the lane and by the time it made it to the pops, it had lost most of its momentum to continue forward.

So to fix this, the right habitrail comes off, along with the plastic and support bracket against the shooter lane. Then I completely removed the elevated ball launch and added washers under the left most screw holes of the ball launch. I needed two washers at each screw hole to get the appropriate angle.

Then I simply put everything back together.

Now the ball smoothly warps around the orbit as it should. Now to go practice my skill shot. I hope this works for others as it did for me.

Scoot.
