[7 minute read] I'll put some detail into this listing, thanks for reading!

[Updated, I ran out of characters in this description, this description is continued for a few more pages in the discussion thread about this listing: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/demolition-man-one-of-a-kind-topper-mods-100#post-5873284]

I've been the steward of this Demolition Man since 2017, and it's been well cared for in my living room (it's my only pinball machine).

Owning this game as been absolutely wonderful. It’s a great wide-body Williams, it’s the only game with the dual gun handles on the sides of the cabinet. You can play with either the triggers or the regular flipper buttons. The 3rd flipper has what I believe is one of the best skill-shot ramps because it’s physically wonderful to watch, but also because it’s “all about timing.”

This game is great for every age. Bonus note, I’m including the original ROM, plus I’ve installed the Home ROM which is a rarely-done upgrade.

Now that I’m much deeper into the pinball hobby (and even following the “trending up” podcasts… I can say this game is a truly excellent value. Very fun widebody DMD game!

This is an excellent player's condition game. Wait till you read the mods list.

PLAYFIELD:

The playfield is in awesome shape, and I've scrutinized it. However it has has a single glaring flaw front and center: there is a dime-sized chip out of the paint in playfield, down to the primer. Unfortunately it's right between the flippers, but it's never once caused a gameplay issue. What about touch-up you ask? I didn't dare, because it's right on the neon paint! Neon colors are notoriously difficult to touch up; see image.

KNOWN GAME HISTORY

I picked this game up from the arcade Pinball Wizard in NH when they closed down. So it was definitely routed. I bought it -not- under power, and knowing it needed a new motherboard. I'm so glad I got this fun game!

TRIGGER HANDLES:

The two gun handles on the machine are in mechanically and electronically great shape, solid. The trigger buttons and thumb buttons are good. Visually, they show the common heavy tarnish of wearing through the metal handle coating. This game is a complete head-turner thanks to the trigger handles and wide body alone!

LEGS:

The legs are shiny and good looking but I didn’t scrutinize them closely. All four leg levelers adjust freely but filthy. For some reason 2 out of 8 leg bolts are a head different size.

Modded! Includes one PinGulp cup holder!

FRONT OF CABINET/COIN DOOR:

Has 2 coin mechs which tested good, coin return moves freely. Hinge and molding is ok. Front of cabinet art is ok/scratched, a couple of edge chips taken out. Lock works, has key. Menu system buttons inside door work great. This game has a good menu system and you’ll see the Home ROM installed item.

Bonus: I’ve upgraded all the LEDs on the front of the game: the coin reject buttons have LEDs, the Start, Launch, Extra Ball light-up buttons all have the special miniature LEDs installed (this can be an uncommon upgrade too). I color matched or used the best available LEDs for the lit buttons.

Tilt bob works, coin box included, can’t remember if I tested the slamtilt switch.

** A very important note: this wide-body game is very, very, VERY heavy!!! One of the heaviest. Like same as Indiana Jones… Please be fully prepared to pickup this heavy machine, it’s not one to shimmy into a sedan...

BACKBOX:

The decals on both sides of the backbox are badly scratched (see pictures). Hinges are ok. Requires allen wrench to unbolt, I do not recommend removing the backbox from this machine. The back latch is bent/poor. One backbox-to-cabinet bolt is missing.

The molding for the speaker panel and backglass are good. One of the hook brackets for the backbox speaker panel has the wrong screw, which makes the fit a bit tight.

Knocker works. Vent screens clear, cable protector good. All wiring good. At least a couple new ribbon cables. No backbox lock.

BOARDS/PCBs:

MPU motherboard is new + bulletproofed!
Coil driver board is Rottendog and good.
Special Williams auxiliary board is good.
Sound is good.
Flip-tronics boards in the backbox are good. Flip-tronics opto boards for cabinet flipper buttons are new.
Power supply is good.
Never had any fuse issues with this game.

CONTINUED!!!

DMD, SPEAKER PANEL:

Good! Good and bright. Lots of life left in this display, was great in a lights-on room. No dead pixels at last test. No major scratches or chips.

BACKBOX LIGHT PANEL:

Fully LED, including high-end LED flashers. I put a slow color-chaning LED under Simon’s famously different colored eye on the backglass. Sweet detail.

BACKGLASS:

The glass appears fine. The translight is faded because, you know, it’s from 1994. At least one piece of black plastic backglass trim is damaged but present.

LEFT/RIGHT CABINET:

Has a bunch of gross scratches in the side decals. The backbox and cabinet art damage are the main thing I point out why this game is *player’s condition.*

Original red flipper buttons. Plenty of smooth wear around buttons.

LOCKBAR AND GLASS:

The lockbar is a little screwed up. It’s been welded and modified at some point, and is a bit bent. But it does work and it is completely tolerable for extended ownership and gameplay. If I were keeping it, the next value-added part I’d order is the lockbar.

The glass is widebody, no chunks taken out of it.

Modded! Inside the cabinet I installed the mirror adhesive vinyl recommended by Todd Tuckey, called the “poor man’s mirrorblades.” I think they look great and really bring something special to this old school/new school sci-fi game!

PLAYFIELD:

That one chip in the neon center, as mentioned.

All new coil sleeves under the playfield (skipped the knocker coil sleeve).

I replaced all rubbers with white where available. It’s been 3 years so they’re not beautiful but all rubbers are present and plenty bouncy.

LEDs:

LOTS of work went into the LEDs in this game, much more than some “quick kit.” There is not a single incandescent light left anywhere on this game.

I used many warm white LEDs and I think this game looks absolutely perfect. Even though it’s true, there’s an “ice” theme to this movie, I don’t like cool white lights on 90’s games.

For the actual “freeze” inserts, I used hard-to-find cool blue crystal lights. All inserts were color matched or best option. They look like the factory intended.

Modded! I added new lights to the main claw feature that are wired directly to the claw ready insert! I’ve never seen anyone add the light upgrades to the claw and the back-panel that I’ve done. I opened up the “girders” plastics and boosted the lighting in there too.

Also the custom claw topper is LED lit!!

The slingshots have LED disks under the front two transparent star posts.

The ball in the shooter lane is illuminated.

All flashers have been hand-selected for each location.

Modded! Outhole/trough LED lid with warm white strip. Great upgrade.

RETINA SCAN FEATURE/EYEBALL:

Modded! I replaced the Retina Scan saucer/kickout hole with a translucent white cup, AND added a slow color changing LED under it. I think this one color changing LED on the playfield is tasteful and awesome because it has to do with reading the eye color in the movie.

The juicy eyeball captive ball is good.

CARS:

The “captive ball" on this game is actually a trapped matchbox car, that rickochets into a second matchbox car! I replaced the red car toy in this game with a new one, and confirmed it is the correct red car from the BOM. I’m including the original matchbox car container (not original packaging.). The white car is good.

Upper flipper is good, but the yellow narrow standup target next to is is a bit bent because it gets hit hard, all the time. I mark this as hard to get perfect, and fine as-is.

CENTER RAMP/ACMAG:

Modded! Put red/orange/yellow LEDs under the grill this feature. The sequence PCB is good.

CLAW:

Modded! Everything about the claw is great! Electromagnet is perfect, switches are good, optos good, no scratches, motor is good, positions correctly. Plus that bonus light tied to the insert.

Claw diverter good.

Computer scoop GOOD, VUK good. Back multiball scoop good. This (left loop) is a great, tricky shot in pinball!

PLASTICS:

are good/ok. I think there’s at least one small break in a plastic, I think by the right outlane. All clear ramps are a slightly yellowed but in good shape, not dirty or frosty. Ramp switches all have new gray switch covers/hides where applicable.

Flippers are good, fully rebuilt, new coils and sleeves. Red silicone rubbers.

SLINGSHOTS:

Modded! Include modded lighting on star posts (alligator clips.)

Over the past three years I've enjoyed playing this game! You will LOVE this game by itself or in a collection. It's a widebody, part of the Williams SuperPins/Super Pins series of games.

POP BUMPERS:

Modded! I installed the metallic Demolition Man decals on the pop bumpers. It's the details that count. Pop bumpers and 3rd kicker rebuilt with new coils and sleeves.

TOPPER:

Unique to this game, I will include an *EXCLUSIVE ONE OF A KIND* topper for this machine.

I made this topper myself, by hand. And it shows haha! I think Mrs. Pin might like this topper.

Obviously a robot claw is part of the movie theme. The robot claw toy on this topper is a painted “armatron” toy. The two action figures are original official Demolition Man toys.

PRICING:

My price is firm at $2632 (32 for Pinside).

Prices on Demolition Man have been "Trending Up!” This game is a great value.
I know what I've put into this machine. It’s 100% working and ready to play.
Sorry, I will not ship, must pick up in Somerville, MA. Must pay via PayPal.

Were you thinking of buying some other NIB game? Wouldn’t you really rather have a nice players condition widebody Williams for 1/3-1/4 of the price? Plus, this game has the handles!

Thanks for reading!

Wow.

#5 3 years ago

You are overhyping your game. A simple players condition DM would have done it for the price you are asking. 2600 on a working decent demo will sell it.

Every time I see your topper I crack up! A real joy bringer.
