Hello,

Since yesterday, the Cryo Claw of my Demolition Man is living his own live.
When playing, the Cryo Claw starts randomly moving like the ball is in the elevator, but it isnt.

Sometime I got the message:"Magnet Broken", but not always.
When starting the machine, the Cryo Claw moves sometimes 8 times from the left to the right.

I checked all opto's, but they are fine and registrating
I meassured all cables and they are also fine, including connector.

In the test menu everything is working fine, even the magnet.

What to to next? Is in one of the boards?

I'd remove the small board at the bottom of the assembly and reflow the solder on all the soldered points on that board.

Before resoldering, reseat the cables in and out of this board. I had a similar issue and reseating the cables worked for over a year now.

Even when the board is as new?
It’s only 2 / 3 months old.

#5 23 days ago

You mean the board with optos 25 and 26?

#6 23 days ago

Or is the problem in the Motor Board under the playfield?

#7 23 days ago

The small board where the claw wires plug into.

Check that one out if reseating doesnt work, check ground and voltage to that board.

That board is new en optos are registrating.
That means the power to the board is OK, or not?

Quoted from ArnoBosvelt:

Yes.

In game the Cryo Claw is permanently moving from left to right and back.

It went crazy…

But what to do next? Is there a problem in one of the boards? What to do?

Everything looks alright, because in test it’s working fine.
Also the switch test is OK!
Used Opto switches for Cryo Claw and Elevator are CLOSED and OPEN when breaking the signal.

I think the Problem must be somewhere in one of the boards? But where to have a look?

Someone who can give me some advice?

Try a factory reset. Just to keep ruling things out.

Reset to Factory Defaults doesn’t make any sense.

I still think it must be on one of the boards? Agree?

But on which board? And where to have a look?

Changed the Power Driver Board from my Roadshow and the problem still exists…

#15 21 days ago

Maybe th claw left limit is out of adjustment?

#16 21 days ago

How to fix that?

Also changed the 7 Opto Switch board with my Roadshow… No solution…

Also changed the Fliptronics II board with my Roadshow… No solution…

I remember when i tried to use a diff rom it did not register the left claw limit correctly.

I would probably check the claw test in diags and run it s few times to see how that works and if it works consistently.

Not sure what else to check at the moment...

I already did… In test everything works fine… Opto’s are registrating… They are “CLOSED” normally and “OPEN” when the signal is broken…

So when you are playing, the claw moves but the elevator stay still?

If so i think somethibg is broken in the logic of that mechanism. The only time i had the claw move left to right is:

Claw parked left
Claw moves right, elevator goes from down park to up position
Claw moves left
Then claw would move right and elevator would cycle again...

That time, the opto for elevator ball detection needed replacement..

But yours has no elevator movement, correct?

I found out something more.
Think I have a problem in de Switch Matrix.
Checked all Switches and Opto’s in the Switch Matrix.

In Column 7 all Opto Switches are not working.
There is 1 normal Switch in that Column which one is registrating well.

The Switches and Opto’s in the other Columns are also working fine and registrate.

Where to have a look next?
Allready changed the LM339’s on the 7 Switch Opto Board under the playfield.

Last time my switch problem was phantom. I reseated cables from mpu to switchs and lamps and it went away. Try that for now. It happened 2x for me and i had the error on boot up. I dont remember the exact error.. i think it said check optos or something...

That said, its been a couple years since the problem and it hadnt returned.

Hoping someone with more knowledge can chime in.

Checked the green/purple wires from backbox (J206) to the 7 Opto Switch Board (J3) and Switches (Column 7), but the wires look good… I think it must be something on one of the boards? Where to have a look? Someone an idea?

Someone who can help me with this?

Wires look good. Grab a meter - do they have continuity ?

All switches and optos are working again…

The claw is also working in test, but in game it starts random, even when the ball is not in the elevator.

Is the problem in de Motor Board under the playfield? Or does someone have an idea what’s wrong? Where to search for this strange problem?

Check opto ball sensor at elevator. It sounds like it thinks a ball is there.
