I think the real issue with the ColorDMD LCD vs. LED is whether you LIKE the enhanced LCD modes like the DotXL and Hi-Res. If you just want the DMD style dots, the LED is MUCH better IMO. It's more vibrant color is much more attention grabbing than the LCD version. Also, there is no fade out if you looking at an angle like there is for the LCD. I have ColorDMD LED's in Indiana Jones, Addams, and No Good Gofers and I love it, actually sold the LCD style to switch to the LED. That said, I have the brightness turned down to a "3" setting which matches the brightness of the original DMD (on a scale of 1-9, 3 is pretty low on that range).

Bottom line, it is still personal opinion on what you like to see. Pictures DO NOT capture the LED's color brilliance very well.
