I agree on the nervousness. There will be some redrilling involved for some people since not all insert lighting is the same for this game.

#252 7 years ago

When you replaced the plastic how did you re rivet the red and blue lights?

Bought a long handle rivet tool for this purpose. Alternately you could use small machine screws and nuts. I went that way on Space Station so that I could swap colors from clear, blue. I think several of the pin part suppliers stock them or a specialty hardware store probably would.

#253 7 years ago

How about replacing screws and nuts? Anyone have good suppliers / product numbers / quantities?

Perhaps we can get a good list going here

I could use a good source for a screws and nuts. A kit would be fantastic. I know Marcospecialties has most of them, but it's difficult to put a complete list together when many of the screws on my playfield are not original. My Tomcat was previously hack repaired in most places by the previous owner(s).

Probably been covered somewhere on pinside, but what stapler/staples do you use the ground braid and some other wiring?

There is a little bit discussed about it in this pop bumper rebuild thread:

Balance sent, Peter!

#265 7 years ago

Hello to all

Thank you for all your trust.
The first clear coat has been applied, now we are waiting for the clear coat to settle.

Regards from Hamburg
Peter

#266 7 years ago

How many coats get applied? Can't wait for a picture of the finished product. This has been great to follow!

#267 7 years ago

Basic is 2 coats. The first bunch of playfieds had been clear coated on Friday the 4th.
As soon as the clear has settled we will apply the second coat.

#268 7 years ago

Is there an option other than basic?

#269 7 years ago
Quoted from shicketmaster:

Is there an option other than basic?

Great question!
What's the ultra option Peter?

#270 7 years ago

Hello to all

After the second coat has setteled, we will check them and then decide if a 3rd coat is needed.
At the Moment there is not another Option to do custom clear coating. To do a decent mirrow finish it can take upto
2 years, and then you can still see the outlines of inserts after the clear coat has settled completly. But we will do our best to get a
decent Playfield out to you.

It would be the best to let the Playfield rest for atleast 6 months. Then sand and apply another clear coat layer and wait again and repeat until you are satisfied.
Kruzman would also be an option.

Regards from Hamburg
Peter

#271 7 years ago

Altought I'd hate to wait for 6 months, just do what you think is right.

#272 7 years ago

Is there a certain brand or type of clear coat that is recommended? I want my mirrors to be jealous of my F-14 Tomcat's playfield finish.

#273 7 years ago

If you want your playfield perfect get ahold of Ron Kruzman, he will advise you what to do. For me it will be perfect compared to what I have now, i wont be able to get to my swap right away so not sure if I will re clear mine or not, I will let it sit and decide later, as I'm not as picky as alot of collectors are, I'm just happy we have something other than nothing, you couldn't even get some of the inserts because they weren't available.

#274 7 years ago

Stick a playfield protector over it instead. That's what I'm doing. Playfield will stay virgin and it will look like thick clear coat.

#275 7 years ago

If you put a playfield protector on it, is there a timeframe that you should wait to allow the clear to cure?

#276 7 years ago

Picked u an f-14 today. Would like to get in on this if anyone is interested in selling their spot!

Talked to Peter and was able to get one!

If you put a playfield protector on it, is there a timeframe that you should wait to allow the clear to cure?

Good question.
But I would think if it's ready to play on when shipped it's ready to install protector on. Also, it's going to take me some time to install everything on bottom side and rebuild pop bumper and flippers etc.. before I even start on top side.
Cheers!

Peter, any updates on the playfields?

#286 7 years ago

Hello to all

We are now doing the clear coat. The first batch will be brought to the paint shop today,
these playfields are now ready for the second coat.
The second batch of playfields have thier first coat and will be fetched from the paint shop toady.
Sorry but its hard to update, it is now mainly waiting time, waiting for the clear coat to settle.
I hope that the first boards can be sent out in the first week of December.

Regards from Hamburg
Peter

#287 7 years ago

I made the 100 Euro downpayment on one of these playfields. However, the house I'm moving into has less space for pins than I'd hoped. Since I need to downsize my collection, and don't even have an F-14 yet, I'm looking to sell my spot on the playfield list. I checked with Peter and he's OK with me doing this.

To help speed things along, I'm willing to sell my spot for $50. You would then owe Peter the balance of 645 Euro for the playfield. I'll send Peter an email, letting him know that youre taking my spot. So, if you haven't yet bought one, and want to save about $50, send me a PM, and we'll get it worked out.

Well that was nice of them to let you know.

#297 7 years ago

Yes, Peter is awesome to deal with

#298 7 years ago

Goto google and have them translate the message

#299 7 years ago

Ok, translated email and yes , F14 playfield was signed over to DHL today with a tracking number. I thought Santa was going to bring it?

#300 7 years ago

I hope I get an email soon. I think I paid on the 2nd or 3rd day after his email was sent. I just can't wait to see the finished product and put mine back together. I had mine disassembled for restoration when he announced he was going to make these....and it's sat like that ever since. In a 4 game collection, it's tough living without one of them for that long!

I'm exciting to see some pictures when they start arriving for everyone.
