Hello to all

We would like to see if there is a demand for a repro playfield F14 Tom Cat?

Regards from Hamburg
Peter

#2 2 years ago

I would buy some.
i think many people will wish for one, but i worry they will cancel when they decide not to overcapitalise the game?

#3 2 years ago

People have been calling for this PF for a while. Does this mean that PPS will actually be getting theirs? My PF is garbage and I have been unable to find anyone with a decent condition one for sale.

You should post in the F14 club https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/f14-tomcat-owners-club-fans-also-welcome

#4 2 years ago

Hi.
If there is demand, then I will run them. The price will be approx 650€ and 95€ shipping to the USA.
Shipping Australia 105€

how many requests do you need before you will proceed peter?

#8 2 years ago

745 € is almost $1200 CAD. Our dollar is tanking so I doubt there would be much interest in Canada. Die-hard F-14 fans maybe. I understand the amount of work it takes to re-create a PF, but the economics cancels out any sale.

#9 2 years ago

Yeah i'd be interested but the terrible Canadian dollar scares me.

I'll have to give it some time and think about it.... my playfield is pretty much ruined.

Peter have you talked with PPS? They had someone doing these a couple years ago. Supposedly the inserts were done and they were making a ton of progress. If it fell through PPS might have a lot more people to throw your way. or if you have an account on their website you could investigate.

#10 2 years ago

Yes I spook to PPS.

#11 2 years ago

I would definitely be in, just seems like it's one repro playfield that is never going to happen.

#12 2 years ago

If I get 100 confirmed orders, Ill start this project and get it finalized

#13 2 years ago

How are you sourcing the chevron inserts? I thought they were unobtanium.

Best of luck with getting this done... Come on, people, we need 100 commitments!

I am a official parts supplier. Its no problem for me to make a mold for missing inserts, I manufactur all inserts I need myself.
My main busness is injection molded plastic parts.

You should overproduce the inserts when you do the playfields. A lot of restorations would need those

Agreed. You would sell a boatload of them.

#17 2 years ago

#18 2 years ago

#19 2 years ago

Yes - I'm definately in.

Awesome - glad to hear these are going to be made

#23 2 years ago

I might be in the market for one. Though I'd be more interested in buying the chevron inserts

#24 2 years ago

Awesome!
I want one too!

All ... the supplier who 'was' supposed to be doing F-14 is dead in the water (as happens alot these days and it also takes alot of time for people to give me indication that they are not doing it), and so I've discussed with Peter doing them. We should have the original artwork films (need to check) which would speed this up. Peter makes his own inserts, so this is not a problem, etc. So, we need to line up enough demand (note that people signing up to buy something vs actually doing it is not very good, so we may need to figure out a more reliable way to gauge real interest) - but if there is enough interest then Peter has been cleared to make them.

So, it will all depend on the interest level. Most F-14 playfields are worn heavily especially in the upper middle area, so while there is great need, not clear if the price of a new playfield will deter people ... playfields are not cheap to produce, especially ones that are lower demand.

Thanks for doing this survey, I sure hope this will happen. There are a lot of F-14s out there and I've yet to play one with a playfield without issues. I'm signing up now. Thanks!

Rick, is there any possibility for PPS to take refundable deposits to truly gauge interest? If a certain threshold is not met within x period of time, then refunds are sent and the project is placed on "hold" for a minimum of another 12 months? Many of us would love to see this (and other playfields) reproduced and understand the risk it poses to people like you and Peter when all the "interested parties" fail to truly buy in.

#28 2 years ago

Hello to all

If I get enough pre-orders this project will go through 100%
Once enough pre-orders came in, Ill ask all to confirm and commit with a 100Euro deposit.
Then I will produce the comfirmed ammount of playfields.

Will the playfield be ready for install?

Meaning will they have insert decals, post and mounting holes drilled, and clear coated?

#30 2 years ago

They will be ready to mount. Could be that the holes must be clean drilled (clear coat).
We dont use insert decals, we silkscreen print, as the original.
And yes, they will have clear coat on them.

Quoted from PPS:

not clear if the price of a new playfield will deter people

For me, this is the question.

I love F14, and while my playfield is decent, it's not perfect.

I don't think that I could justify paying more for an F14 playfield than I did for the game.

If the price is around what CPR charges for theirs ($600-$700ish), I would be VERY interested.

I also fully understand that this might not be able to happen, so I'll happily sit on the sidelines for now and see what happens, but price is a huge issue here.

#32 2 years ago

Yes, 650 Euro is 705US$ at the moment.

Heh, and there's me not tracking the exchange rate well. I was thinking it was over $1000.

I'm very interested in one if it stays around that price.

#34 2 years ago

Yes, the Dollar has gained alot lately, its now 1.08 Dollar to an Euro.

#36 2 years ago

I would be interested...however I would need to secure an f14 pin first...are repro plastic sets available?

CPR still have sets from their last batch! Please sign up!

#38 2 years ago

I am now actively looking for an f14 in So Cal...

#39 2 years ago

Should be a huge seller.

15,000 F14 and every one of them needs a new playfield......

#40 2 years ago

I'll buy one.

#41 2 years ago

Please send me an email directly to peter@buthamburg.de, subject F14 Tomcat, then I can put you on my list

I just picked up a set from marcospecialists. Still in stock.

#43 2 years ago

I'm just hoping to find a game first. If the playfield is wasted then I'm in

The PF is almost always wasted.

#45 2 years ago

I've never seen one with a good playfield. It's better to lock in a new playfield and just assume your game will need it when you find one.

Thanks, I would love to make this happen. This would be my first attempt at a restoration. Now I just need to find a reasonably priced base game.

#47 2 years ago

Following this thread.

#48 2 years ago

It's confirmed! I'm on the list!

#49 2 years ago

Screw it..im gonna buy one, i will get a game to put it in when i can...i guess i should order plastics while they are available...i can always sell the stuff if i dont use it...
