Lots of movies made back then just aren't the same watching them on tv today. I was in college in 1975 and Deliverance was great on the big screen. My all time favorite is still the Exorcist. I saw it with my wife (then girlfriend) on a Saturday night and damn near shit my pants more than once. Went back to school on Sunday and went again with a bunch of buddies. I mean, it can't be that bad, right? I've already seen it. Damn near shit my pants again. I can watch it on tv today, and it isn't even close to being the same experience.
Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells version for the theme song still gives me chills when I hear it. Play just two notes and you'll know what song it is.
Quoted from jgreene:Deliverance is one of those movies that does not live up to the hype. Maybe it was cutting edge in 1975 or whenever, but it just does not hold up well today.
