Decided i needed more defender in my life. Nothing overly exciting to post so far, but i figured I'd start a thread to show my progress as i go. Thinking I'll install a horizontal 19 in 1 board and use a 19" lcd monitor that i already have. Here's where I'm at with the cabinet:

Love Defender. Looks great! Played it every day in the early 80's. Lol. I have a Stargate in my collection.

To be able to use the 2 player feature on certain games on the 19/1, the original control panel has to go. I looked around the interwebs and found a cp some guy designed and posted online years ago. It was a pretty low resolution image though. I re-did the cp in paint to my liking and just need to find a place to print it out.

Do yourself a favorite and grab a JROK board. I've logged 100s of hours and Defender (and Robotron) and the game play is perfect.

Routed a slot for the t molding, a marquee light installed, primed the cab and got a little bit of painting done today. I'll hopefully have it ready for artwork this week.

I'm definitely considering the jrock. Although i do like the game selection of the 19 in 1 better.

Fabricated a speaker panel grill and mounted the marquee brackets.

Installed a coin door i got off the bay. The board and harness are on their way, so I'll be able to play it soon. After that, I'll just need t molding and the stencils and she'll be done.

And she's up and running. I kept my expectations low for the 19 in 1 jamma board, but all in all, its pretty decent. I haven't noticed any sound or emulation issues so far. Everything seems pretty accurate to the original games. Need to get the stencil set and it will be done.

Great work. You did an amazing job !

You know you are missing the Reverse and Hyperspace button

#22 6 years ago

They're there. I am missing the inviso button for stargate. I never realized how trippy some of these Williams games are. Someone was smoking some serious shit when they designed Blaster and Splat.

Thank you sir.

I am impressed. Have many great memories of that game from back in the day.

After waiting for damn near 4 months, my stencil order finally arrived. Was able to spenda little time with it over the past couple nights and finished the front. Actually starting to look like the real thing...

So a buddy of mine picked up an "express raider" in a converted defender cabinet. Against my recommendation to restore it to its original glory, he wants me to convert it to a 60 in 1 with a Pittsburgh penguins art theme. Meh. The good part is i can basically strip it of is original parts like the stainless coin door and absolutely beautiful rca monitor.

Where/How did you get the template(s)/measurements/specs to cut and build the cabinet from scratch?

The specs are out there on several sites. It's just a matter of careful measuring and cutting.
