Just wondering, what game has the deepest rule set of all time? And no, don't say BOPB...

Keefers coded games

#7 7 years ago

TSPP, LOTR, WOZ and now TH which may end up being deeper then the other 3 by the time the code is completed.

Woz
Acdc
Lotr
Tspp
Met
Ripleys

ACDC is really second? I don't know the game that well but I didn't think it was that deep.

#12 7 years ago

Slick Chick, eh? OK, I'm going with this one...

I never thought of Metallica as a deep game, but I guess it is. Completing all 4 CIU modes and then getting EOTL is probably something I'll never accomplish.

Bally Paragon

... kidding lol

RBION and probably the hardest too beat, Atlantis or Frog Frenzy!
Mine ain't going anywhere till I achieve these, guess it will be cremated with me?

#19 7 years ago

I feel the same way about sperm attack. Shits nearly impossible!

#20 7 years ago

at the moment, WOZ. TH could beat it someday, maybe.

#21 7 years ago

Has anyone ever beaten big buck hunter?

#22 7 years ago

In chronological order:
TSPP
WOZ
TH

Also, don't confuse deep with fun. Deep is a description, fun is an opinion.

Nope, but it is not a deep rule set. Just real damn hard to get OPEN SEASON. good game.

certainly true. but what would be the point of a "most fun game" thread? clearly thatd just be a recipe for disaster and hurt feelings.

#26 7 years ago

I'm going with F14.

Well that could be any thread around here

#28 7 years ago

Baywatch & Popeye are up there.

Of the games I've owned or played, LOTR and TSPP have had the deepest code. Never came all that close to reaching either games wizard mode. I still miss LOTR, even after owning it a couple times- one of the best rule sets...

Quoted from CaptainNeo:

TSPP and LOTR have always been the kings.

Which one is married to the Woz Queen?

#31 7 years ago

No love for xmen? Definitely not as deep as woz but should be top 5 along with GoT imo

Quoted from lordloss:

they are married to each other. It's one of those relationships.

#33 7 years ago

TSPP
LOTR
WOZ
WPT
FGY
-starting to see a pattern here-
Hobbit (if trends prove true)

Notable mentions:
RBION
ACDC
TWD

I keep reading threads about deep rules, deep rules don't mean squat if the playfield design is mediocre.

+1

They even mean less if they are attached to a sucky theme.

I have reached Atlantis and its spectacular! Keep trying it's worth it.
My vote is LOTR. Still have not reached Valinor. Someday.........
Damn you LOTR, must conquer Valinor!!!

True, it goes the other way as well. Even if a playfield design is great it does't mean squat if the rules are mediocre.

Deep rules mean everything. The playfield doesn't matter and should be ignored along with art and theme. Nothing matters but rules.

I've heard the "if it ain't fun it ain't shit" argument so many times I thought I'd say the opposite to see what it looked like. Nobody ever said what I just said there, yet everyone acts like it is said all the time. But actually, I agree. Fun (opinion) is what makes you want to learn rules (depth).

Quoted from DaveH:

Deep rules mean everything.

"The only true mark of a great game is whether I've bought one, and how quickly I proclaim it to be a great game after a day or so of playing."

To me EVERY game has the deepest rule set since I can't get to the wizard mode on any of them. So I really couldn't tell you from first hand experience. I only know what I have read. People talk about such long ball times on LOTR but I think, "geezers 4 minutes ain't that long..."
